Great video about a planet that might eventually be colonized! (Note: The title of the Youtube video looks like somebody made a typo, and it wasn't me!) Very Happy

I think they're using the word "Find" in the sense of "discovery", in journalism-speak.

Yeah, I got that, but the wording is verbose and clumsy (with quote marks that are pointless), so I changed it for the title of the thread. It works much better that way, and hopefully we'll get replies about something other than the goofy title.

Hell, this is exciting news, folks! The video says this is the most Earth-like planet every found. Very Happy

I made screen shots of the gorgeous artist conceptions of the planets and the graphics in the video. These are truly wonderful.

This first one is a rendering of the Kepler spacecraft itself. The two after that are comparisons of Earth and Kepler 452b.

The rest are examples of other exoplanets and what they might look like.

The graphic below shows Earth in comparison to exoplanets that are either larger or smaller than Earth.

IF it is Earth-like then the mass/density rules would NOT make very habitable for us older folks. (e. g.: 2 times the size = 2 times the mass; 180 lbs = 360 lbs.)

NOT good for the arches.

Following the link given on YouTube I find this:

Quote:
It's about 60 percent wider than Earth, which gives it a "better than even" chance of being rocky, researchers said. The planet is probably about five times more massive than our own, making it a so-called "super Earth."

A planet 1.6x the diameter of Earth would have a volume 1.6 cubed, or about 4x the volume and mass of Earth at the same density, so they must be figuring a higher density for Kepler 452b.

I don't think I would be comfortable at 5x, 4x or even 2x my present weight.
