This is one of my favorite episodes because it presents a unique concept. Two bright young college students — and a married couple at that — design a brilliant experiment right in their apartment, using hi-tech equipment they've borrowed from the science department of their college.

They simulate the environmental conditions on Venus inside a large bell jar, to see if life can exist under the harsh conditions.

_

The experiment is, to say the least, a raging success. Not only do they succeed in growing some hardy lichens inside the jar, a non-corporeal life form spontaneously"evolves" inside their little micro-ecosystem!

_

The special effects for the scenes of the light beings are achieved with simple spotlights, but the results are quite effective. The script and the actors sell us the whole idea beautifully, and for 25 minutes we enjoy a fascinating story about two young scientists who study strange energy beings which might be intelligent!

_

Things really get interesting when the glowing life form actually leaves the bell jar and starts roaming around the lab.

_

One afternoon when the couple is out of the apartment, a young lady who is in the apartment to be tutored by the man disobeys the strict instructions she was given to stay out of the makeshift lab.

_

Knowing nothing of the energy being in the jar, she doesn't realize she's in danger until the light creature attacks her eyes and then returns to the bell jar.

_

The glowing life form leaves the bell jar again a few hours later, and it positions itself on the chest of the young man. But knowing of the attack on the girl, he manages to protect his eyes in time.

_

There's considerably more to this tidy little tale than I've related here, so click on the picture below and enjoy the video, compliments of Youtube and All Sci-Fi.

I always thought that Skip Homeier (the husband) looked like the characters drawn by artist Wayne Boring.

YouTube has a number of episodes from this great show, and the picture quality suggests that they're from the restored DVDs sold by Shout Factory.
