Here's an interesting order.

I've just ordered the Italian import of GILDA.

Rather than order direct from Italy, I've ordered this through a third party amazon seller here in Canada. I have previously ordered BDs directly from the UK and Japan but the Italian postal system has a reputation for being problematical. By ordering through a third party seller here, it's an entirely domestic transaction.

As I have mentioned previously (though the comments are likely buried somewhere). The HD encoding system used for BD is used worldwide so these discs are playable anywhere so long as they have no region coding applied. The Italian release of GILDA is very highly rated and tested to play in North American BD players.

From Blu-ray.com:

"The release uses as a foundation the UCLA Film and Television Archive restoration of Gilda, which was produced in cooperation with Sony Pictures Entertainment, The Library of Congress, and The National Film and Television Archive U.K. Unsurprisingly, the basic characteristics we typically address in our reviews look solid. Generally speaking, image depth and clarity are pleasing throughout the entire film, while contrast levels remain stable. Color saturation is good - blacks are solid and there is a nice range of nuanced grays. The best news, however, is that there are no traces of problematic denoising and sharpening adjustments. Needless to say, the film has a stable organic look."

The most sexually charged scene in movie history:

A couple more exciting discs just announced.

This is an amazing time for people who love genre flicks from the '50s and '60's.

I've heard some dissappointment that these discs don't have more early stuff with Curly. And I understand that. Nevertheless, these Stooges features are part of my childhood...I saw a couple at the drive-in as a kid. So I'm very happy.

Time for another peek into my Blu-ray collection. As usual, this grouping includes a few things you won't find on the shelf at Wal Mart.

I'll single out a few for special mention.

HOUSE OF WAX. I still haven't watched this Blu-ray. It's in 3D but I don't have a 3D TV or player. Yeah, I could watch it in 2D but I'm buying a few of these old 3D films for future consideration so I'm hoping to get a 3D set up some day.

HOUSE OF DARK SHADOWS/NIGHT OF DARK SHADOWS. Nice discs based on the old Dark Shadows TV soap opera. I loved that show when I was a kid...didn't understand it...but I loved it Smile.

FATE IS THE HUNTER. This is one of those "internet only" limited editions. Beautiful transfer. Good movie if you are into aviation. Maybe a bit too slow for the non-airplane folks.

TEAM AMERICA and THUNDERBIRDS (TV series) are interesting in that they were both purchased from amazon.uk. There is no North American release of either one.

THE SADIST is the first movie that I can ever remember absolutely terrifying me when I was young. The official Blu-ray can only be purchased from an eBay store.

GILDA came in the mail today so I have another collection of 15 BD to photograph and add to my database.

Interestingly, GILDA is an Italian Blu-ray but it shipped from Germany.

I'm trying to picture what your living room looks like, Brent. I figure your furniture is made out of Blu-ray boxes.

An amusing mental image.
Very Happy

Here's my latest batch of acquisitions.

As Blu-ray matures as a format, we are seeing many more of the deep catalogue "B" movies and TV shows. This is good stuff and I honestly thought most of the things here would never see a Blu-ray release. Every week brings an announcement of something interesting.

Time for another visit to the Off Topic forum.

There was a time when my Blu-ray collection was being updated with a new photo every month. However, after several years, I've reached a point where most of my favorite movies are already in my collection so my rate of acquisition is decreasing. As always, I focus on movies from off the beaten path. That being said, there are a few big, recognizable titles in this bunch. The AIRPORT COLLECTION (four Airport movies) and the spectacular restoration of MY FAIR LADY are the big names in this bunch.

For the musical fans, we also have APRIL LOVE in which Pat Boone plays a juvenile delinquent. Yeah he was arrested by the cops and sent to live with relatives in the country for the crime of driving without a license (I guess juvenile delinquency in 1956 was a bit different than it is in 2016). Also in the musical genre is the wonderfully bizarre 5,000 FINGERS OF DR.T which was written by Dr. Seuss before he was Dr. Seuss.

Also deserving special mention is the neat little apocalyptic drama PANIC IN YEAR ZERO starring and directed by Ray Milland. We also have THEM; the greatest giant bug movie ever made. Honourable mention to my beloved 50's sci-fi schlock THE MAGNETIC MONSTER and the surprisingly creepy INVISIBLE INVADERS.

I was delighted to see this announcement from Shout Factory. On 2 December they are releasing a two disc set of The T.A.M.I Show and The Big TNT show. Theses were shot in "Electronovision" and transferred to 35mm film. They won't be in perfect HD but they should look better than ever.

Some of my favorite Youtube videos are actually clips from these two shows. After years of watching the Youtube versions, it will be great to see this on my big TV and (just as importantly) hear them through my high quality home theater sound system.
