I'm a fan of the series, and I was mildly amused by the first movie, but this one left me cold. Gruesome paranormal activities don't thrill me, and that was what this second feature film was all about.
I don't even remember much about the plot because it just didn't entertain me, and the critics had the same reaction. Jan Stuart from the Los Angeles Times commented, "The X-Files was a load of malarkey. But it was thoughtful malarkey and compulsively watchable. One could say the same about the first two-thirds of The X-Files: I Want to Believe before it spins out of control and into a delirious plane of awfulness."
The film didn't make enough money to impress the Hollywood executives who ponyed up a $30 million budget and only brought in $68.4 million. By industry standards, that's not a profitable movie.
The bottom line is that if anybody else didn't care for this movie, I'll certainly won't give them an argument.
