Well, I missed my prom too. I spent my time learning Latin!

Still, I think she looks pretty hot in that dress!

Perhaps Scotspen would like the dress better with a slightly different hemline.

Well, more of Anne's legs and less of that garish pattern can only be an improvement.

________________________________

Until I saw the picture of Altaira and Robby recently, I'd never seen the jewel-encrusted dress anywhere except the publicity still that was part of the color set of 12 which I purchased in the 1960s.

The gawd-awful red background does not make the dress look good. But I must confess, sir, that what you think of as garish I regard as stunning — like the gowns in the picture from the Miss Universal pageant I posted earlier.

]

On the other hand, if we're talkin' "garish" . . . well . . . Rolling Eyes

I've always assumed that the dress was supposed to be Altaira's attempt to dazzle Commander Adams after he criticized her clothing during the kissing scene and told her that she "couldn't run like" that in front his men. He told her she should "go home and put on something that will . . . uh . . . " and he waved his hand at her exposed legs.

Clearly hurt by the comment, Altaira's replied with, "What's wrong with my clothes? I designed them myself."

So, the love-sick young girl wanted to show that she could be gorgeous even while displaying the minimum amount of skin — and the jewel-encrusted dress was the result.

The producers, however, decided to tone down the dress, and the one we see in the movie is the result.

I had to figure out a way to post Butch's article at a smaller size without make the text unreadable. The way I came up with is something I don't think would have worked with Photobucket, but it works great with Imgur! Very Happy

Having the pages include an embedded link to a MUCH large version of each jpeg directly on Imgur works great! I'm sorry now that I didn't think of that idea when I posted several articles from Famous Monster and a few other publications, although the original jpegs weren't nearly as good as Butch's to start with, so the improvement wouldn't have been as dramatic.

Butch and I have worked together on several occasions to make posts with article that were clear enough to read, but with Photobucket we had limited success.

Now that I know how easy it is, I look forward to posting other articles that are clear and easy to read, and I'm sure Butch is also eager to share other publications he has.

Go to Centauri Dreams for part one and to Centauri Dreams - part 2 for part two of an interesting in depth analysis of Forbidden Planet (M-G-M 1956).

This should definitely start a lively discussion!

Star Cine is a French magazine with several different isues devoted to varying genres of movies. Their sci-fi and fantasy issues were named Star Cine Cosmos. The issue covering Forbidden Planet had the usual photo-novel plus a comic book!

Enjoy!

I've tried in vain to find jpegs of the Dell Movie Classics for Forbidden Planet, but I can't find anything other than the cover.

Maybe somebody else will have better luck.

Bud, that's a fake cover----It doesn't really exist.

It originally came from a website (I forget which one...it was a few years ago.) that showed a bunch of fantasy, could have been covers for Dell movie adaptations.

Wish it WAS real!

I know it's a fake but I also widh it were real! By-the-way, the comic posted earlier was reprinted in 1966 in Cine Devue magazine number 36. It is very hard to obtain as it sold out!:

Not to go too far off topic, Here are a few of the other "faux" covers in the series.
