Remember though, at times there were TWO Martys coexisting in the same timeline! Perhaps what could really happen is that Two or more could NOT exist in the same line, one would replace the other!

A recent episode of the LEGENDS had the Reverse Flash create multiple versions of himself to all co-exist at once. He did this by keeping them all out of phase, just microseconds in the past and future

I would suspect that if you could really travel into the past you'd have a tough time figuring out which future to return to!

But, heck! In a story you could do anything as long as you justify it in the confines of your story!

Remember, Cyrano wrote a story in the 17th century about a trip to the Moon using evaporating dew as a propellant!

Sorry, Gord, but your proposal has a few problems.

Yes, there were two Martys present in 1955 in Back to the Future II, but the odd situation I described in my previous post occurred at the end of the first movie, not the second. Very Happy

And consider this: Doc Brown was shot by the terrorist at the beginning of the first movie, but he was wearing a bullet proof vest at the end of the movie because he had read Marty's letter! So, Doc had a complete new set of personal memories because of Marty's trip to 1955.

But wait minute! That brings up another interesting point. When Marty came back to the "Lone Pine Mall" (which was originally the "Twin Pines Mall" when Marty left at the beginning of movie), Doc was laying there playing dead, with a letter in his pocket he'd been given in 1955!

And here's the really weird part.

Unlike the terrorist scene at the beginning of the movie, at the END of the movie Doc chose to show up at the mall parking lot and allow himself to be shot! He knew the terrorist were coming. That why he wore the bulletproof vest.

In fact, Doc knew all this long before Marty was even born!

Furthermore, Doc also knew Marty was going to use the time machine to escape from the terrorist! Doc remembered all the events that took place with Marty back in 1955!

But Doc chose to keep quiet for thirty years, and then to played out some variation of the event when the terrorist showed up. He let Marty escape in the time machine, which endangered both his and Marty's life.

So, the question I'm posing here is, why didn't Marty remember his own NEW past when he came back? After all, Marty's family undoubtedly said goodnight to him the night before we see him wake up and find the big change in the present . . . and THAT Marty grew up with his new-improved McFly family.

In fact, THAT Marty never had to go back in time to fix the sad lives of those poor unhappy people! There lives were completely different from 1955 until the present! Shocked

His brother, sister, mother, and father were surprised that Marty was acting so odd when he first saw his "new" family in their stylishly decorated home. They all had memories of a completely different life . . . which included Marty's childhood.

So, where did THAT Marty go when the time-traveling Marty came home from 1955 and woke up in his own room the next day!?
Shocked

Exactly!! In each case one of the multiple Martys was REPLACED by Marty Prime!

Marty Prime woke up in the "other" marty's bed because he replaced that one!

Where did he go you ask?

Into the limbo of multiple alternate realities!

I like the premise that by interfering in the past it can reset the present or future to such a degree that people could sort of fade away as you watch and within moments you have absolutely no memory or idea of who they were! The parallel universe concept is good but where exactly would such a thing exist if it wasn't there mere minutes before?
