FOX did a Time Tunnel reboot some years back & it was quite good. Stronger story premise & enough changes to make it fresh & interesting.

I think all of Irwin Allen's sci-fi tv shows can be revived. The key is having superior writing on them & not following the Irwin Allen formula of having them just be "running, jumping shows" as he once referred to his series.

CBTS certainly falls into that category. And as always with today's level of special/visual effects the show could be epic in scope.

Yes, the unaired pilot is quite good. It impressed me much more than the old series ever did.

You know me... I think any reboot/remake of Irwin's productions couldn't help but be an improvement.

I didn't like it that much, it was too modern! But I loved the original Time Tunnel with James Darren and Robert Colbert! Shame it only lasted one year as the second season would have brought them out of the tunnel and home, with missions going back into time to prevent the odd anomaly or two from occurring!

Hey, I'll bet that would have been much better! Being in full control of the Time Tunnel instead of spending every episode trying to fix an initial screw up and then making matters worse, temporally speaking, would be a lot more interesting. Very Happy

That, basicly, is the premise of ABC's series TIMELESS.

I remember ordering the WB on demand disc and it cost me extra through the damn customs because it was over £30! Was it really a Warner Brothers film and not 20th Century fox? It had scenes and models from their series so I would have guessed it belonged to them instead!

It may have been released through WB, but it was definitely filmed at Fox, it used practically every SF set piece and prop they had.

Irwin Allen's shows typically started strong and descended into silliness and gimmickry. I see nothing about "City" to indicate it would have been otherwise.

Fortunately, the butchering job done to the 4' Gemini XII model was undone.

Youtube has the demo reel that Irwin Allen showed to the potential television networks and advertisers in order to drum up interest in his City Beneath the Sea project.

It is from about two years prior to the full TV-movie/pilot production that aired. The cast in the demo is entirely different from those who appeared in the TV-movie.

That could have been due to Allen changing his mind regarding who he wanted to cast. It could also be due to the unavailability (or interest) of the actors from the demo reel when pre-production commenced for the TV-movie.

Demo Reel: Glenn Corbet (1933~1993) plays the lead, he's General Kevin Mathews, the man in charge of Pacifica. Glenn appeared on such SF TV shows as The Man From UNCLE, Star Trek: TOS "Metamorphosis" episode, and The Land of the Giants.

Lawrence Montaigne (1931~2017) played Dr. Raymond Aquila who can breathe underwater. Montaigne guest starred on The Outer Limits in "Cold Hands, Warm Heart," with William Shatner. He would appear on ST:TOS episodes "Balance of Terror," & "Amok Time," The Invaders, The Time Tunnel, and Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea.

Beautiful Francine York (1936~2017) was Lia Holmes. York guest starred on Land of the Giants, Jason of Star Command. Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman.

York would also appear on Irwin Allen's 1976 SF TV-movie/pilot Time Travelers which would also not be picked up by a network.

Lloyd Bochner (1924~2005) played Harmon Temple III. Lloyd was a prolific actor who amassed a long list of credits on television. He generally played slick, smooth, oily villains.

Some of the TV shows he would guest star on were: The Twilight Zone ("To Serve Man"), The Wild, Wild West ("The Night of the Puppeteer"), The Green Hornet, The Starlost, Battlestar Galactica, The Six Million Dollar Man, The Bionic Woman.

James Brolin co-stars on the demo reel in an early role for him as the character Wild Bill Taylor.

Cecile Ozorio plays head of security Choo Choo King.

I've got to take my hat off to Allen for being so progressive as to want to cast a female in the important role as the security chief for Pacifica. Women were, generally speaking, still being cast in subservient parts in film and television at this time.

City Beneath the Sea was released in the United kingdom under the title One Hour to Doomsday in 1972.

The YT video is interesting to view due to some of the set designs for the demo reel. They show us Trident Command for Pacifica which looks similar to what we'd see in the TV-movie. However, there are some matte paintings for it that only appear on the demo.

Another scene shows us Glenn Corbet's character recovering in a hospital in Pacifica. Behind him is a matte painting for the recovery room that he's in.

Later on we see the apartment of one of the characters with another matte painting behind him.

I won't say that these mattes are flawless by any means, but they are interesting to view. They are creating Virtual Sets for the demo long before that term became common in the age of CGI. I applaud them for even attempting to construct something like that at that time and with that eras' level of special effects technology, as well as on a TV budget.

The model city design for Pacifica as it is all lit up is still breathtaking to behold.

Irwin Allen's Lost In Space was made into a feature film some years ago. FOX did their LIS TV-movie/pilot that had its moments but overall was lacking. It later became a weekly show again on one of the streaming services and quite a fine one at that. Far superior to the original 60s series.

FOX made a very good Time Tunnel reboot TV-movie/pilot that deserved to be picked up.

Perhaps all these years later we can't rule out a revival, and once more we will take a journey to the City Beneath the Sea?

I've posted a number of comments on All Sci-Fi about the exciting possibilities of aquatic habitats deep under the ocean . . . both anchored to the bottom —

—or suspended just below the surface!

The suspended habitats would be able to rise up and float on the surface to allow ships to dock, and also to permit the inhabitants to enjoy water sports!

Just think how easy it would be to create CGI special effects which portray these concepts in a series, one that did what we hoped SeaQuest would do . . . but did not. Sad

If the aquatic world of Earth's oceans were treated the same way the "final frontier" of space was in Star Trek — with a respect for both science and the intelligence of the audience — the series could present exciting episodes on a weekly bases.

And I am impatiently awaiting for some writer to create just such a series and be able to sell it to a network.
