A separate magazine, Donald and Mickey, had 12 issues with The Adventures of Captain Nemo stories. I only have access to the first 6 issues and there were only 2 panels per issue.

(The rest will be posted as I get them.)

Had Disney done a sequel to 20,000 Leagues under the Sea, these Adventures of Captain Nemo comic book stories would have provided great source material for another movie.

Dr. Neptune's Sea Monsters particularly struck me as an exciting story for a live action film adaptation.

I envision it as a collaboration between Walt Disney Studios and Willis O'Brien and/or Ray Harryhausen.

Obie and Ray could perform their marvelous stop-motion animation for the living plant on Dr. Neptune's island. Then they could animate the large creatures in his laboratory, the sea monsters, the attack birds for the final battle at Nemo's island.

Naturally the short story from the comics would have to be expanded for the silver screen. And the title would have to much cooler sounding than Dr. Neptune's Sea Monsters.

Perhaps elements from the other Adventures of Captain Nemo short stories could be incorporated into the Dr. Neptune plot such as Nemo's one-man helicopter, the island of slave labor, the young boy that needs help.

If I remember correctly, Mike, you quoted director Richard Feischer as saying that they had to create a story for the movie because the book didn't really have one. I've read the book, and even though I love it, Fleischer is right.

I also read the novel, Bruce, enjoyed it greatly. However, not easy to adapt to the silver screen with a central plot because the novel is really a series of unrelated events. Interesting but difficult to make it all come together.

Ray Harryhausen had a problem with adapting his terrific Mysterious Island into a feature film, too. Ray said that the Verne novel is essentially all about how to survive on an island. More like Robinson Carusoe.

The novel had none of the amazing creatures that Ray created for the movie, nor was there any storyline about Captain Nemo conducting experiments on animals in order to feed a hungry world in order to stop wars.
