https://www.thewrap.com/aldous-huxleys-brave-new-world-adaptation-set-at-usa-network-with-straight-to-series-order/

USA Network has given a straight-to-series order for an adaptation of Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World.

Based on Huxley’s 1932 novel, Brave New World imagines a utopian society that has achieved peace and stability through the prohibition of monogamy, privacy, money, family, and history itself.

As citizens of New London, Bernard Marx and Lenina Crowne have only ever known a rigid social order, a perfect pharmaceutical called Soma, and a culture of instant gratification and ubiquitous sex. Curious to explore life beyond the strictures of their society, the two New Worlders embark on a vacation to the Savage Lands, where they become embroiled in a harrowing and violent rebellion. Bernard and Lenina are rescued by John the Savage, who escapes with them back to New London. John’s arrival in the New World soon threatens to disrupt its utopian harmony, leaving Bernard and Lenina to grapple with the repercussions. The three become entwined in a fraught relationship that awakens them to the dangers of their own conditioning.

The series was adapted for television by David Wiener, with Grant Morrison and Brian Taylor. Wiener and Morrison along with Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey, co-presidents of Amblin Television, will executive produce. Taylor will executive produce on the first episode. Wiener will also serve as series showrunner. Black Mirror: San Junipero director Owen Harris will direct the first episode.

Brave New World is from Universal Content Productions, in association with Amblin Television.

Brave New World joins the Jason Bourne spinoff Treadstone as the latest straight-to-series order for USA Network.

Interesting news, Miss Eadie! Muchas gracias!

I'm not sure why I'm glad the USA network doing this and not the SYFY channel. There's no guarantee the USA will do a better job, but SYFY has a checked history with their productions.

Besides, it was the USA network back in 1986 who showed The Space Children on television for the first time and allowed me to see it after waiting 28 years! Very Happy

Both USA and SYFY are owned by NBC/Universal. Butch owns stock in NBC/Universal.

Brave New World

Alden Ehrenreich to Star

https://www.thewrap.com/alden-ehrenreich-to-star-in-brave-new-world-series-for-ucp/

Alden Ehrenreich will star in UCP’s Brave New World adaptation.

Based on Aldous Huxley’s 1932 novel, the adaptation was ordered to straight-to-series at USA earlier this year. The book imagines a utopian society that has achieved peace and stability through the prohibition of monogamy, privacy, money, family, and history itself.

The Solo: A STAR WARS Story alum will star in the series as John the Savage, a “subversive outsider who threatens to disrupt the stability of New London’s utopian society.”

Brave New World centers on Bernard Marx and Lenina Crowne, citizens of New London who have only ever known a rigid social order, a perfect pharmaceutical called Soma, and a culture of instant gratification and ubiquitous sex. Curious to explore life beyond the strictures of their society, they embark on a vacation to the Savage Lands, where they become embroiled in a harrowing and violent rebellion.

The series was adapted for television by Homecoming alum David Wiener, with Grant Morrison and Brian Taylor. Wiener will serve as showrunner and executive produce alongside Morrison and Amblin Television co-presidents Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey. Black Mirror: San Junipero director Owen Harris is attached to direct the first episode.

The project hails from Universal Content Productions, in association with Amblin Television.

[size=20The Classic Novel Comes To Sky/HBO Max[/size]

https://theplaylist.net/brave-new-world-teaser-20200505/

Dystopian fiction is always a great inspiration for quality film and TV projects. There’s something about a world that is so unlike our own, and possibly frightening, that makes people eager to learn more. So, it makes sense that HBO Max is hoping that Aldous Huxley’s classic novel, Brave New World, can be turned into one of the streaming platform’s first major series.

As seen in the new teaser for Brave New World, the novel’s story of a dystopian future where science has created a perfect society remains the focal point, as the World State is a place where advancement has eliminated the need for money, family, monogamy, and other social constructs that rule our current world. But everything gets thrown into chaos when one of the lesser people, known as John the Savage gets thrown into this idyllic society.

The novel stands as a hugely influential masterpiece that has inspired countless other fictional worlds. And while the series is based on the novel that predates stories such as The Handmaid’s Tale and 1984, it’s clear that those stories are proof that Brave New World can be a hit on HBO Max.

The series stars Alden Ehrenreich as John the Savage. The actor is best known for his role as Han Solo in the disappointing Star Wars spin-off film, Solo: A Star Wars Story. Though Solo: A Star Wars Story wasn’t well-received [ I liked it — Eadie], Ehrenreich’s performance wasn’t one of the biggest issues with the film, as the actor clearly has talent and charisma to lead. Since then, he hasn’t had a starring role and hopes to turn Brave New World into his next big hit.

He’s joined by Jessica Brown Findlay, Demi Moore, Harry Lloyd, and Hannah John-Kamen in the cast of the new series.

Brave New World is not only going to premiere on HBO Max but will also debut on Sky in the UK. Teaser trailer:

Thanks for telling us about this series, Eadie.

It reminds me that there is another version that was released in 1998. The 90-minute made-for-TV movie was by NBC Universal and was aired on NBC TV, and stars none other than Mr Spock. I have the Blu-ray of this one- it's an OK movie. ASF doesn't have a thread for this version.

There was another TV movie released in 1980 starring Keir Dullea (2001:ASO), which is also unlisted on ASF.

Miranda:
O wonder!
How many goodly creatures are there here!
How beauteous mankind is! O brave new world
That has such people in't!

Prospero:
'Tis new to thee.

The Tempest Act 5, scene 1, 181–184

Exiled from Milan, the former duke Prospero and his admirable fifteen-year-old daughter Miranda have been stranded for twelve years on an uncharted isle in the Mediterranean. Miranda's entire experience of mankind has, until very recently, encompassed only her bitter old dad and his deformed slave Caliban .

So fitting that a DAUGHTER of a FORBIDDEN PLANET should let us know about a new expression of the literature and lore.
