This is a solid, a liquid, and a gas — at the same time!

What this beaker of wacky stuff does looks like a special effect — and it is. But not the Hollywood kind.

The "effect" is special because is supposed to be impossible. Shocked

Watch this rapid "change in state" happen in real time and at room temperature, as this incredible substance quickly goes from a liquid to a solid to a gas . . . and then does it again . . . and again . . . and again . . .

* Don't be shy! Leave a reply. Very Happy

The triple point was demonstrated for us with water in high school chemistry class. However, it wasn't nearly this dramatic. It was done in class by placing a dish of water in a bell jar and evacuating the air.

Right. And when I first saw this crazy material and the way it kept making the change over and over, I thought —

"Wow! I hope they start selling glass balls with this stuff in it! It would look great next to my three lava lamps!"
Cool

I went looking for a "desk toy" version of the cyclohexane beaker shown above, but there doesn't seem to be one.

However, grab your socks and hold them onto your feet, because this little gizmo will quickly remove them. Shocked
