_____

[Also released as: "Retik, The Moon Menace"]

The exciting adventures of Commando Cody, Sky Marshall of the Universe (Gee Whiz, I like this movie already!).

Voyage to the Moon with Cody, who must pit himself against the dreaded Retik (Roy Barcroft), who plans to enslave the Earth with his atomic gun! Retik's chief henchman on Earth is Clayton Moore of "The Lone Ranger" fame.

Fortunately for us, Commando Cody is equipped with a rocket-pack (first used in the 1949 serial, "King of the Rocket Men").

Good fun for serial fans, although they'll recognize many borrowed scenes from "King of the Rocket Men", along with props and sets. The 1966 feature version suffers from the same choppiness that all condensed serials do.

The Rocket Man returned in "Zombies of the Stratosphere", but the character's name was Larry Martin in that one.

Directed by Fred C. Brannon.

Merry Christmas, serial fans! Here's all 12 chapters on Youtube, although the picture quality ranges from pretty fair to cruel-and-unusual-punishment.

But you can sample it and then maybe buy the DVDs from Amazon for under $8.00. Heck, you got that much in change under your sofa cushions, cheapskates! Very Happy

Cody was also the hero in "Zombies of the Stratosphere".

The Rocket Man character in "Zombies" was named Larry Martin. The name "Commando Cody" wasn't used in that production.

The COMMANDO CODY serial is a bit different from the other ROCKETMAN ones, in that each episode was freestanding and not always of a cliffhanger nature. The reason for this is that it was done as a proposed TV series to be shown weekly.

In any event . the whole collection is a wonderful example of the best of the serial genre!

On the "J-Men Forever" DVD (a very funny movie, by the way), one of the extra features is an interesting interview with Commando Cody (George Wallace).
