____________
_________

Japan's radical re-working/follow-up/sequel to the whole Frankenstein's Monster legend from the Hollywood monster factory which dates back 20 years earlier and more (the 1931 film, then The Bride of Frankenstein 1935, until The House of Frankenstein 1945).

The key element of this one is the monster's heart, which is depicted as immortal, indestructible and so forth. The heart is transported from Germany towards the end of WW2 and ends up in Hiroshima just before the Atomic bomb hits.

Fifteen years later, a wild boy is running around Japan, eating anything he can get his hands on. Did he eat the heart? Is he the heart?

He's taken in by a couple of scientists (Nick Adams, Kumi Muzino) and begins to grow at an alarming rate. This is Japan's version of the monster — a giant who just gets bigger.

___________

The plot then throws in another standard Japanese monster, Baragon, a dinosaur-like monster that burrows underneath the earth at super-speed and can also shoot a flame-like beam from its mouth, Godzilla-style.

The giant Frankenstein has escaped into the wilderness and is blamed for Baragon's attacks. Eventually the two meet in combat, mostly over the giant's protective nature towards the female scientist. The sort-of sequel was War of the Gargantuas (1966)

BoG's Score: 7 out of 10

________________________________

This is an unusual Japanese monster movie because the man who plays the monster is NOT in a rubber suit . . . but he does fight a guy who is.
