Summary of events depicted in the section above..
________________________________

On the bridge of the Enterprise, Kirk receives a comm from Tatenen which informs him that the drone has been tampered with and is now targeting Romulus. He says McGivers was aboard the drone and may know what happened, but the shape-shifting yeoman was somehow beamed off the drone to an unknown destination. However, she may also have the current command codes which will be needed to stop the drone.

Spock's sensor readings determine that the only possible location McGivers could have reached by transporter is the shuttle Galileo, which the Klingon collaborator Kor pretended to steal from the Enterprise during his bogus escape to fool the Romulans, a plan devised by Kirk and Tatenen.

The two captains decide to send the USS Lexington after the drone and attempt to destroy it, despite the special armor that protects it. If that fails, they are to search for McGivers, who is probably back aboard the Galileo, after she (disguised as Kirk) and Kor deceived the Romulans much earlier.

Kirk and Tatenen then review the next step in their strategy; the Enterprise will attack the Bird of Prey, forcing it to retreat. Then the Abaddon will fire charges at the transport which only make it appear they're trying to destroy it, after which they'll lock on with a tractor beam and finally haul the disabled ship and it's Klingon colonist out of the gravity well.

Watson, the Abaddon's android first officer, contacts Captain Tatenen from the ship's battle bridge to report that the Galileo has been located, and that McGivers is in contact with the Abaddon.

Aboard the Galileo, McGivers reports that the drone has changed it's target, but it was not because she did anything to it. She tells Tatenen to beam her aboard the Abaddon and she'll make her full report. McGivers says she will use the Galileo's transporter to send her directly to Tatenen's cabin. The captain agrees.

Aboard the Abaddon, Tatenen and Watson discuss the plan to lower the shields just long enough to bring McGiver aboard. Tatenen expresses his concern for McGivers' recent erratic behavior. They both wonder why the drone's program was altered, sending it towards Romulus.

As Tatenen heads for his cabin in a turbolift to meet with McGivers, he and Watson have a discussion over the intercom concerning the sensor readings they got earlier from the Enterprise concerning the Romulans' powerful plasma weapon and the fact that when the Goliath was destroyed there was absolutely no debris left!

On board the Enterprise, Uhura informs Kirk that Mister Wason reported the return McGivers to the Abaddon. Kirk asks her to have Tatenen contact him as soon as he reaches his cabin so they can discuss a potentially new development from the Romulans.

Aboard the Romulan Bird of Prey, the Commander is told that they are tracking one federation ship, but there are also sensor readings which indicate a cloaked ship is in the area, too. The Commander suspects it's the Enterprise, using the cloaking device they stole two years ago when the female commander was tricked by Kirk and Spock.

Meanwhile, the Bird of Prey receives a message from Kor on the Romulan scout — pretending to be the Romulan named Decius. The Commanders tells "Decius" (Kor) to remain on the scout ship's bridge and he will be transported over shortly to receive medical treatment for the injuries he claims to have.

Meanwhile aboard the Klingon ship Korinar, Commander Krug is in communication with a pair of Klingon females aboard the trapped transport ship. He reassures them that all hope is not lost, because several Federation ships are assisting in their rescue.

Krug receives a transmission from Spock aboard the Enterprise, who tells Krug that they should arrive before the transport runs out of fuel, which will happen in just eight minutes! When they arrive, the Romulans will finally realize that the Enterprise and the Abaddon are rescuing the Klingon transport, not attacking it as the Romulans have been lead to believe by the elaborate ruse the two captains have been playing out.

Spock also tells Krug about the Romulan's plot to implode the asteroid.

Meanwhile, Tatenen enters his cabin, but he's puzzled by the fact that the lights are very low, making it difficult to see the dark figure of McGivers, who has her face turned away for some reason.

McGivers slowly approaches the captain and reveals that this shape-shifting artificial being has assumed the form of Tatenen's late wife, Devon— something which Tatenen has given her strict orders never to do!

McGivers quickly explains that she has been infected with a virus that's sapping her strength and might cause her death.

_______________

Tatenen is suddenly concerned for the well being of McGivers when she explains that when she beamed off the drone ship, the onboard computer deliberately implanted something into her artificial body that is now degrading here internal structures. She fears that it might eventually killer her.

However, while interfacing with the drone’s computer she discovered that the Romulans not only wanted to destroy the Klingon transport ship, they also plan to collapse the neutron core of the asteroid and create a black hole that would destroy everything for ten light years around it!

At that moment, Kirk contacts Tatenen to say that he and Spock have detected sensor readings concerning the Romulans' plan to collapse the asteroid. Tatenen thinks he knows what strategy the Romulans will use to hide their true intentions, and he explains a plan he has to Kirk.

On board the Enterprise, Kirk listens to Tatenen’s tactic to deal with the coming situation. According to information McGiver has provided, the Bird of Prey is charging its plasma weapon, which MUST be fired once the charging is complete.

Kirk and Tatenen work out a complex strategy to confuse the Romulans as to which ship they’re dealing with at the crucial moment of their attack on the Romulans.

According to their plan, the Enterprise, will target the Bird of Prey while the Adaddon pulls the trapped Klingon transport out of the gravity well.

Kirk offers a few hypothetical reasons for why Tatenen’s plan might not succeed. But McGivers explains that she learned about the strict orders the Bird of Prey was given; collapse the asteroid at all cost. Kirk then agrees that the plan has a good chance to succeed.

The cloaked Enterprise takes up a position just 100 meters behind the Abaddon as the two ships approach the asteroid and the trapped Klingon transport.

Aboard the Abaddon, McGivers tells Tatenen that her weakened condition has made it necessary for her to stay in her “true form” — the exact likeness of Tatenen’s late wife. The scientist who created her was obsessed with the beautiful Devon Tatenen, so he gave his artificial life form the likeness of Tatenen’s wife.

Aboard the Romulan scout ship, Kor is contacted by the Bird of Prey and told that security team of Klingons will beam over in ten seconds. Kor improvises a plan; he continues to masquerade as the Romulan named Decius, and he tells the Bird of Prey that he is with a badly wounded Centurion who needs immediate medical attention. The Romulans agree to beam the injured old man to their ship.

Before the transport takes place, Kor puts a phaser rifle into the unconscious Centurion’s hands . . . set on “overload”.

On the bridge of the Enterprise, Kirk and his crew watch the main view screen as they approach the asteroid. Suddenly Spock reports that sensors have detected an explosion in the vicinity of the Romulan ships.

On the Bird of Prey the captain is informed that the transporter readouts have detected a dangerous energy build up in the matter stream. The captain orders the destination coordinates changed so that the Centurion will materialize out in space, thus preventing the ship from being damaged.

The captain orders a security detail to beam over to the scout ship and kill traitor, “Decius” (Kor).

A few seconds later the phaser rifle explodes fairly close to the scout ship and sends it spinning through space.

Aboard the Abaddon, the ailing McGivers is rushed to a stasis chamber which will stabilize her condition until the virus which is killing her can be destroyed.

At this point, the Bird of Prey is just three minutes away from the firing of it’s powerful plasma weapon.

Meanwhile, aboard the USS Lexington, Commodore Wesley is pursuing the unusual “sentient drone” that had infected McGiver with the virus. It’s headed towards the Neutral Zone at high warp. Despite the fact that the Enterprise previous informed Wesley that the drone couldn’t be destroyed by conventional weapons, Captain Wesley decides to try it anyway.

He orders the helmsman to fire phasers at it, but there’s no effect. Wesley then orders the helmsman to increase speed and maneuver the Lexington in front of the drone before they make another attempt to destroy it. They desperately hope to stop it before it reaches the Neutral Zone.

Aboard the scout ship, Kor — the Klingon collaborator who is still in possession of the Higgs Field Generator — devises a new plan to reek his personal vengeance on the Romulans. He activates the strange device while standing ready with the “escape button” which will transport him to the shuttle Galileo.

On the bridge of the Bird of Prey, the captain hears the screams of the security team after they’ve materialized and the Higgs Field Generator creates a gravity field which crushes them to death.

Summary of events depicted in the second set of images on page 12.
________________________________

On the bridge of the Enterprise, Spock reports that he's detected Higg's waves that are increasing in strength. He tells Kirk that Captain Tatenen said the Higgs Field Generator was supposed to quickly disintegrate the matter around it. But the sensor readings indicate that the Romulan scout's mass is actually increasing rapidly.

Kirk is told that the Bird of Prey is moving away from the scout ship and toward the Klingon transport. Knowing the Romulan ship will decloak briefly to fire on the Klingon ship, Kirk orders Sulu to be ready with phasers and torpedoes.

On the Bird of Prey, the Commander is told that the scout ship will collapse into a singularity in 40 seconds, and they must reach a safe distance before that happens. The Commander knows that the Federation ship they've been tracking will have to drop it's own cloak before firing. So he issues orders to time their nuclear missile (the only weapon they can fired while the ship is cloaked) at the Klingon transport and then flee while the Federation ship is defending the Klingons.

Suddenly the Commander is told that they've actually been tracking the cloaked Abaddon, not the Enterprise! They've been tricked!

The Commander orders the immediate firing of the nuclear missile at the Klingon transport, then he tells the helmsman to get the ship to a safe distance before the scout ship collapses into a singularity.

Captain Tatenen opens fire on the Klingon transport with a relatively harmless barrage of antimatter flares to make it appear he's also attacking the transport, further confusing the Romulans. But he realizes that the premature firing of the Romulan nuclear missile has left the Abaddon directly in the missile's line of fire.

Moments later, Command Krug calls the Abaddon to say he has a lock on the nuclear missile and will deal with it while the Abaddon rescues the Klingon transport — which only has two minutes of fuel left!

The bold and brilliant Captain Tatenen decides to do a bit more than he was supposed to, according to the plan he and Kirk devised. He orders his tactical officer to make his "best guess" as to where the cloaked Bird of Prey is, then he turns to Mr. Watson and says, "Execute Plan B! Torpedoes away!"

Meanwhile, Commander Krug's ship fires on the Romulan missile to save the Klingon transport.

The Klingon torpedo destroys the missile.

Captain Tatenen is please to see the explosion of the Romulan's nuclear missile on the main view screen.

At that moment the Romulan Bird of Prey is just seven seconds away from firing its plasma weapon to collapse the asteroid into a powerful black hole.

But suddenly two of the Abaddon's photon torpedoes approach the Romulan ship. One of them misses . . . but the other one does not.

The Abaddon manages to attach its tractor beam to the gravity-locked Klingon colony ship and begin its rescue. But Mr. Watson informs Captain Tatenen that the Romulan ship was only damaged by the photon torpedo. It has decloaked and is now drifting in space, turning slowly. Without attitude control the ship can no longer launch the plasma weapon at the asteroid.

The Romulan Bird of Prey slowly rotates until its prow is pointed at the distant Abaddon — and the plasma weapon is charge and ready. If they fire it, the Abaddon will be destroyed.

Tatenen wrestles with a moral dilemma; save his ship, but leave the Klingon ship in harms way, with 2,000 men, women, and children. Or he can stand his ground and sacrifice himself, his ship, and his crew of androids.

Tatenen decides NOT to move the Abaddon.

On the Enterprise, Spock informs Kirk that the Bird of Prey has been aligned, purely by chance, with the Abaddon and will undoubtedly fire its plasma weapon. Kirk orders Sulu to fire both photon torpedoes and phasers on the plasma bolt.

Sulu deactivates the Enterprise cloak and fires the weapons..

But Sulu is stunned when the weapons have no affect on the plasma bolt, and it continues to close on the Abaddon.

Aboard Tatenen's dreadnought, Tatenen orders a series of desperate efforts to stop the plasma bolt, but the situation seems hopeless.

Meanwhile, the Enterprise is suddenly in danger from the new gravity well created by the Higg's Field Generator which collapsed the Romulan scout!

Uhura receives a message from Mr. Watson aboard the Abaddon which informs Kirk that he'll have to finish towing the Klingon transport out of the asteroid's gravity well if the Abaddon is destroyed.

The Enterprise fires on the Romulan ship and damages the vessel, then it closes in. Meanwhile, the Abaddon is two seconds away from impact by the plasma weapon.

The Abaddon is enveloped by the plasma energy, and her incredibly powerful systems fight a fierce battle to resist destruction.

At that moment, McGivers awakens inside her stasis chamber.

_____________

On the bridge, Captain Tatenen is thrown across the bridge and lands hard inside the turbolift alcove. A blurred, spectral image appears before him and delivers a grim message in a deceptively soothing voice.

With being able to recreate the original characters using CGI all you'd need would be voiceover actors good enough to sound like the original actors, at least those who aren't still with us. Shatner's voice is still pretty good so he might be able to read his own lines.
