What a talent Mr.Douglas was, fantastic resume of the films he did.

I also admired him for daring to venture into science-fiction in film and television in a time when very few actors of his stature went near anything that smacked of s-f.

"20,000 Leagues Under The Sea"is a Disney masterpiece of the Jules Verne novel and remains so to this day.

"Saturn 3"is hardly a s-f classic but it has a fine cast & some intriguing concepts along the way.

"The Fury"was an excursion into psychic phenomena that was entertaining & action packed.

Kirk also tackled a musical version for TV of "Dr.Jekyll and Mr.Hyde." Not great but not bad and his performance is worth seeing.

In 1982 my friends and I had an elaborate 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea Movie Night, at which our host had fixed up his living room to contained elements of the Nautilus lounge — with a mock-up of the pipe organ using cardboard tubes sprayed gold, and a dinner table elegantly set with his parents lace table clothe, fine china, silverware and a sumptuous seafood dinne . . . all from Captain D's! Laughing

I contributed a few works of art to the festive occasion, including this one of Kirk and Esmeralda.

Kirk Douglas' performance in The Vikings (1958) is my favorite of his. What a man. Cool

KIRK THE BARBARIAN!

Thanks! Very Happy

You can read about that 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea Movie Night in the forum called My sci-fi artwork - Paintings and Drawings.

Scroll about halfway down and you'll find the whole story. Here's the other drawing I did for that night which features the late Kirk Douglas.
