Here's a few suggestion I hope you'll find helpful.
First of all, you don't have to read all the pages of a given thread before you add a reply. Just read a few of the most recent ones on the last page so you'll know what subject is being discussed, then add a reply if you if want to make a comment.
As for "catching up" on the thread so you can enjoy all those older posts. just read a page or two each day, starting at the first page and reading the ones which look interesting.
If you see something you want to reply to, hit "quote" in the upper right corner. This copies the members entire post to a composition window. Then you just delete all the parts of the post except the sentence or paragraph you want to comment on.
(If a post is long, you probably won't need the entire text, just a brief section to remind the rest of us what the post you're replying to is about.)
Notice how I did that very thing to your post above, and I cut out everything except the part about "catching up". Doing this leaves the author's name at the top of the quote. 
Write your reply directly below it, then hit submit. Your post will appear at the very end of the thread, no matter what page the quoted part came from.
It's simple, it's easy, it's free, and it's fun for the whole family!

I'd be the first person in line to buy such a book! I found out about this site via the Forbidden Planet discussion over at the Classic Horror Film Board.
If Robot Monster (which I actually enjoy) can merit multiple books, then Forbidden Planet is way overdue for one! |

The problem is the copyright: (©)
The original was Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (M-G-M) and Loews, Inc.
Also the various publishers of the novelizations and reprints and comics.
Then M-G-M/United Artists.
Then M-G-M/ Disney.
Then Turner Broadcasting (TBS).
Finally TNT.
All of which still have legal ownership to some degree. So who gets paid and how much?

But...
Fair warning, some posts in this thread are also full of nonsense (one former poster here was really bad at making stuff up), and some people post images that seem like they might actually be from Forbidden Planet or its production, but aren't. Mostly it's obvious and fun, occasionally it's confusing and misleading. Caveat emptor.
As a film history buff who's always trying to untangle myth from reality this kind isn't my cup of Kansas City Rocket Bourbon, but others do what they think is fun.
You decide what you like.

Very true. I would hope that anything like you mentioned above would be obvious...but perhaps to a newbie that may not be so apparent.
Keep in mind that as great lovers of FP many of us have a sense of humor regarding it and love to tickle other afficianados sense of humor as well!
NOTE : There were NO blow-up astrogators on the C-57d!!!

Cut scene, and a tragic story.
It was Auto Pilot's big chance, but when his big scene was cut, and he was replaced by Robby The Robot, Auto fell into dispair and started drinking. As he was rejected for other parts due to his drinking, Auto spiraled even further into the bottle.
But Auto had one good friend that he had made during his short time on "Forbidden Planet": Leslie Nielsen. Leslie Nielsen stood by Auto over the years, and helped him overcome his debilitating problem.
Finally in 1979, with his good friend's help in getting the part, Auto made his triumphant return in "AIRPLANE!"
With the success of the movie, and the critical acclaim, Auto retired from the business, turning down the part of Captain Ed Hocken in his good friend's show, "Police Squad!".

I'd suggest one change, however. Instead of Auto having a drinking problem, his addiction was caused by an intoxicant which he frequently inhaled.
If was nitrous oxide — commonly known as laughing gas. He was obviously full of the stuff.
Sometimes he'd mix it with helium . . . to get even higher.

It's a true story...Or at least it was yesterday. 
Booze is traditional in Hollywood stories. I couldn't have him on heroin, for obvious reasons.
Besides, I don't think that Poppers were a thing back then.

I would greatly doubt that that book cover is authentic.
First of all there is no publishing company called "Peril Press". There IS an Ebay company by that name selling back issue comics and books.
Second, it looks as if the name of the company and the authors' name are photoshopped in.
That is not to say that some enterprising individual didn't create that cover and attach it to a private press company to print up copies using that cover and consisting of the pdf copies of the books' text.
I've thought how great it would be to get 100 or so copies printed up in that way, but also including illustrations and blueprint data to re-sell in the private market. However Copyright infringement charges could make such an effort a nightmare! Still....It could be done with only a few hundred dollar investment. Hum...….
