I believe that it is, or was owned by Wade Williams. The prop appeared in the remake, it was in the school basement when the Cops searched it. One of the Cops was played by Jimmy Hunt.

This is the one used in the remake.

But the original seems to look much better. Are we sure that Wade Williams has it?

As a promotion for the movie, a full page comic was published in many Sunday newspapers!

The Martian Brain is perfectly safe to be around....JUST so long as he doesn't gesture in your direction! IF HE DOES YOUR DOOMED!

That's what I remember reading when the movie came out, but then I could be wrong. In the 70s on, Wade Williams was buying the rights to a lot of old movies and programing, so it seems logical.

He made a low budget "Space Patrol" movie which had Ann Robinson and Robert Clarke in it. I had a friend, Mel Cohen who worked on it. He designed the costumes, made the prop pistols, and costume accessories. He also cast a number of brains, I believe they glowed.

For some reason he couldn't get the movie released. So he made another low budget, alleged comedy movie, "The Midnight Movie Massacre" in 1988. He used the "Space Patrol" footage as the midnight movie. I don't know if this film ever got released, but after seeing it at a World Con around 88/89...My believe is that the film would have to perform an epic escape to be widely available to be seen.

I would really like to see the full "Space Patrol" movie, but as far as I know, it's never been released in any form but IN TMMM.

Thinking Outside the "Plot"!
________________________________

~ A Question for the Members: If we assumed that David did NOT just dream the whole thing (as the British version of the film does), would Earth still be in danger from a Martian invasion after winning the first battle with the aliens?

~ My Theory: The Wikipedia synopsis of the plot includes the concept put forth by Arthur Franz's astronomer character, which states that the saucer in the sand pit is the vanguard of an invasion from the planet Mars, and their fleet is now in close orbital proximity to Earth. Shocked

The Martians are taking control of various humans to sabotage the rocket which is being built at a research facility nearby. The Martians also want to assassinate certain personnel who are vital to the project.

Franz describes the theory that the Martian civilization is housed in great underground cities and huge spaceships which cruise throughout the solar system.

But the Martians are concerned by the progress of mankind's space program, which they feel will endanger their fragile civilization.

So, the covert mission of the Martian saucer is to reduce mankind's spacefaring potential and then begin a full scale invasion by attacking us from space with weapons fired from the ships in orbit around the Earth.

Assuming that all this is true, the victory we achieved in the movie by destroying the saucer in the sand pit would only be the first battle in a full scale war! The nations of Earth would have to unit in a common cause and defend our planet against these invaders who hope to make our planet their new (and more hospitable) home. Shocked

(I just tossed this out to encourage a discussion! For Pete's sake, don't just read my brilliant comments — add a few brilliant ones of you own! Cool

Let's Create a Sequel!
__________________________________________________

~ A Question for the Members: Do the Martian's we see in this movie create their complex underground lair because their entire civilization on Mars in also underground?

~ Here's what I came up with.: Well, the answer is obviously "Yes!" Rolling Eyes

Mars is invading because their planet is dying, and the strange creatures we see are genetically designed to breath our atmosphere. They all receive telepathic commands from the intelligent Martian who lives inside a transparent sphere, because our atmosphere is not compatible with it.

I think the Master Race on Mars are like the one we see in the glass sphere, and all they're physical needs are provided by the large creatures like the ones we see lumbering around in the movie!

But the ones on Mars are not genetically altered like the "invasion force" beings we see in the film. In fact, on Mars the Master Race has created hundreds of different "slave beings" in all sizes and shapes, depending on their primary function.

Think of them as "tools in a workshop", ranging in size and shape, the way screwdrivers differ from sledgehammers!

Imagine a sequel in which mankind launches a counter attack against Mars, and we find an underground civilization populated by both the Master Race and a horde of strange creates who range in size and shape, depending on what their intended functions are! Shocked

Wow, guys, I'm looking foreword to the replies this imaginative new idea generates! (Please don't let me down . . . Confused)

There were two Martian leaders: one was just a prop seen in the background or carried. The other, credited as 'Martian in Glass Globe,' was Luze (aka Luce) Potter, one of the Munchkins from The Wizard of Oz. Mirrors and other tricks were used to place her in the bubble.

Luz Potter

Luz Potter, who has died at Rancho Mirage, Palm Springs, aged 90, enjoyed roles in two cult science fiction films of the 1950s: Invaders from Mars and The Incredible Shrinking Man, and was one of the last surviving Munchkins from The Wizard of Oz.

In Invaders from Mars, billed as "Luce Potter", she played the Martian Intelligence, a gold head with tentacles in a glass bubble which directed evil emerald-green mutants.

For her role Luz Potter spent hours in Republic Studio's make-up department, before being encased in a glass box.

"I had no dialogue," she said in 1997. "It was something of a bit-part really, and yet I've been held in high esteem over the years for panicking generations as the leader of little green men. I had no idea what impact it would have, but fans write to me in their hundreds and say how I scared them to death as kids watching Invaders."

Invaders from Mars, which made it it into a recent Channel 4 poll of "The top 100 Scariest Movie Monsters, told the story of little David Maclean (Jimmy Hunt) who wakes one night to see a flying saucer land. His father (Leif Erickson) investigates and returns with a different personality and a strange mark on his neck.

On its release it was the moment when David comes face to face with Luz Potter, carried in her glass box by a Martian, that got the biggest cries of fear from cinema audiences.

Luz Potter was born to Rosendo and Adelina Villalobo at Chihuahua, Mexico, on December 15 1914. After a limited education, she joined a travelling theatre and circus troupe.

On the suggestion of a friend who considered her "a good little actress," Luz Potter left home for Hollywood in 1938 to play a Munchkin villager in The Wizard of Oz (1939).

Potter had other film roles in the Gloria Jean vehicle Ghost Catchers (1944); Houdini (1953), with Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh; and played Violet, a midget, in The Incredible Shrinking Man (1957), a cult sf film.

Luz Potter retired after a 40-year career in the late 1970s and moved to Rancho Mirage with her husband. In 2003, the 50th anniversary year of Invaders from Mars she granted a few interviews. Latterly she had been suffering from Alzheimer's disease.

Luz Potter, who died on November 21, was predeceased by her husband Edwin "Midge" Potter in 2004. Their son survives her. Her death leaves seven remaining Munchkins.

Boy, this movie really made an impression on me back in '53!!!

I saw it on the big screen on a double feature at my local movie theatre....and as I recall I sat in the first row of the balcony.

I really loved that the young boy was the hero of the piece and the reveal that it was a dream....and then repeated blew me away!

The green martians were of course clones, and it just screams for a sequel!
