Villain Henry Victor ("Freaks") is working for America's foreign enemies during World War II, turning black men into zombies who help him carry out his plot against America. Hero Dick Purcell opposes him. Comedian Mantan Moreland provides the lighter moments. Fans of Monogram pictures will know what to expect. Directed by Jean Yarbrough.

IMDB has an interesting trivia item about this production. Very Happy
________________________________

~ This supposedly started out as a straight horror film and would be advertised as such. When the comedy thriller The Ghost Breakers (1940) with Bob Hope and Paulette Goddard became a big hit for Paramount, some changes were made.

The original director was replaced with Jean Yarbrough, who had prior experience directing comedies. The film would be edited by Richard C. Currier who had edited many comedies at the Hal Roach Studios.

An additional character, Jeff, was added and would be played by Monogram's premier comedy relief, Mantan Moreland.

Note from me: I'd like to see this movie just find out how success the studio was in converting a straight horror movie into a horror/comedy.

Based on Mr. Moreland's photo on IMDB, he certain doesn't look like a black actor who frequently served as "comedy relief". He looks more like a distinguished, intelligent man who could play any character who had those qualities.
