No Sci-Fi Movies list covering from 1950 to 1969 is complete without including The Bowery Boys Meet the Monsters from Allied Artists Pictures and released on June 6, 1954.

Synopsis: In order to secure a vacant lot for kids to play baseball in, Slip & Sach travel to Long Island where the owners of the lot reside.
The owners are the insane Gravesend family. Derek (John Dehner) wants to place a human brain inside his gorilla; his brother, Anton (Lloyd Corrigan), has constructed a robot; their sister, Amelia (Ellen Corby), tends to her carnivorous tree; and niece Francine is a vampire.

What can go wrong? For Slip & Sach, everything.

If you get a kick out of the Bowery Boys Leo Gorcey & Huntz Hall doing their comedy duo act, and enjoy the mix of comedy with horror as I sure do, then this 'B' movie is for you.

This was the 34th of the 48 Bowery boys movies released from 1946 to 1958, and it was their highest grossing film of the entire series.

The BB had done spooky mansion types of movies previously but the "ghosts" always turned out to be conniving human beings covertly attempting to frighten the gang away.

In this film they finally encounter the real deal with man-eating trees, robots, and a formula that turns anyone into a Mr. Hyde-like monster.

This film is inspired by the superior Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein.

Charles Addams macabre cartoons the Addams Family for The New Yorker also served as inspiration for this movie.

The Gravesend's manservant Grissom is similar to Lurch; Ellen Corby's creepy character is like grandma Addams; and sexy vampire Francine is like Morticia.

Paul Wexler who was six-foot & six-inches tall and who played Grissom did a screen test for The Addams Family TV show.

The robot suit with some modifications would show up again on the Adventures of Superman episode "The Gentle Monster" from March 24, 1958

I've never seen this movie — but by God I can now, any time I want to! Very Happy

And I'd love to share it in All Sci-Fi's Chatzy Room (< — LINK) with anybody who is interested . . . any day of the week . . . any time of the day!

After all, Mike, I found a nice poster, restored and enhanced it, then added it to your post and made this reply with the full movie on YouTube.

Am I cool or what? Cool

Now that you've gotten me interested, how about sharing it with me!

It's really easy. I do that kind of thing twice a week with members like Scotpens, Trekriffic, Gord Gord, and Phantom. Very Happy
