~ An exciting movie with battles in outer space that include giant spacecraft which resemble aircraft carriers.

~ A big budget 1974 disaster movie that demonstrates why CGI is the best way to tell a story about an earthquake — because this movie didn't have CGI. Rolling Eyes

~ A Speilberg disaster movie with great special effects, but it's short oon excitement . . .

All three of these threads are a bit sparse in terms of replies. Hmmm . . . what can we do to fix that? Confused ________________________________________________

Wing Commander (1999)

Opening Statement: IMDB has several interesting trivia items for this production. Very Happy

~ The voice of Blair's fighter's onboard computer Merlin (listed as "?" in the credits) is Mark Hamill, who previously played Blair in the computer games Wing Commander III: Heart of the Tiger (1994), Wing Commander IV: The Price of Freedom (1995) and Wing Commander: Prophecy (1997) and also voiced him in the spin-off animated TV series Wing Commander Academy (1996).

Note from me: Mr. Hamil has done a fine job as narrator on several science programs.

Earthquake (1974)

Opening Statement: IMDB has several interesting trivia items for this production.

~ In a bizarre coincidence, the location on the first day of shooting was rocked by an earthquake. In an even more bizarre coincidence, an earthquake also struck the location where the last day of shooting occurred.

Note from me: Wow, what are the odds? Shocked

Thank goodness a tornado didn't hit the cast and crew of Twister, or a fire didn't break out at the studio during the filming of Towering Inferno, or a volcanic eruption didn't disrupt the filming of Dante's Peak, or Japan didn't launch an attack on Honolulu during the production of Pearl Harbor!

Deep Impact (1998)

Opening Statement: IMDB has several interesting trivia items for this production. Very Happy

~ After discovering the comet, one of the astronomers is killed in an automobile accident. This mirrors the real-life automobile accident death (July 18, 1997, in the Australian outback) of astronomer Eugene Shoemaker, who helped discover the Shoemaker-Levy 9 comet that collided with Jupiter in 1994 and was a source of inspiration for this film.

Note from me: That . . . is spooky! Shocked
