Ah, yes . . . those long-gone "oldies stations" which used to struggle along for a years in American cities — until too many of their listeners died of old age.

In Atlanta, where I lived my whole like until moving to Charlotte in 2007, it was FOX 97 FM for over a decade . . . until one afternoon in 2001 when they suddenly switched formats right in the middle of their broadcast day and became a country music station — with no warning to anyone!

And that even included their famous morning show duo, "Randy & Spiff", who happened to be out on a "remote broadcast" for the station at the time and found out they were out of a job.

Ironically, Randy & Spiff had been the popular morning show hosts on another oldies station right here in Charlotte prior to moving to Atlanta . . . before receiving the same unceremonious boot from the Charlotte station when they too suddenly changed format without warning.

So, poor Randy & Spiff moved to Atlanta and became celebrities there on FOX 97 for a decade . . . until history repeated itself.

When I moved to Charlotte in 2007, I discovered, on two separate occasions, oldies stations that I enjoyed . . . until each one suddenly vanished.

At that point, I found I had to rely on the many cassette tapes I'd recorded over the years . . . and the Sirius XM channel which plays oldies seven days a week, 24 hours a day, without commercials!

I've made over 30 cassette tapes from the Sirius XM channel and other sources. I play them in my car and on my Sony Sports Walkman whenever I stroll around my neighborhood, and also on a Panasonic boom box bought on eBay, which resides on the window sill of my bathroom!

I'm not just loyal to oldies music . . . I'm loyal to oldies technology as well.
