The Man in the High Castle's pilot was deeply flawed, but it's a decent-looking and moderately faithful adaptation of Philip K. Dick's 1962 novel, set in an America that's been colonized by Japan and Germany after Axis powers won World War II. According to Amazon, it became the most-watched pilot ever — given that Amazon's pilots have been fairly hit-or-miss, and few have had the name recognition of Man in the High Castle, this is fairly plausible.

I watched the pilot, in a window on the computer, and found it engrossing, so I'll certainly be up for watching the series. Looks like I may well have to give in and join Amazon Prime when the series starts - hopefully my tv will be Smart enough to handle it!

An absolutely great series,

Doesn't necessarily follow the book, but it's just as good, if not better. One thing they missed out on that the book captures is the level of cultural influence by the Japanese on the Americans, which is emphasized by Frank's heavy use of the I-Ching, just like the Trade Minister, without Frank's use of it, it sort of undermines the underlying concept of the overall story.

I binge watched this over the course of three days, can be really gripping. If you haven't noticed the title theme is a song from the sound of music.

Good post, Sargon!

I read this in the 60's and enjoyed it a lot as a alternative history concept.

The series reminds me of a HBO movie from a few years ago called FATHERLAND with Rutger Hauer. It proposed an alliance between American president Joseph Kennedy and Chancellor Hitler.

That does sound interesting - an adaptation of the Robert Harris novel. I must see if I can find it!

The book it's based on looks like a really good read. From what I can tell the book seems to have a cult following, somebody made the effort to draw up two maps just for the wikipedia page. The cover is pretty funny with Brandenburg Gate flying the Natzi and EU flags side by side. If there really had been no D-day and the Third Reich still stood, there wouldn't be much to make one. lol

That's high praise indeed, sir. I'll have to give this production a look.

Thanks!
Very Happy
