Hey fellow citizens! I had A wicked idea about fighting this Bug War. Lets capture THEM!, train them and let them fight to protect Earth. After all, it's their home also!

Interesting idea, Butch! Very Happy

My first reaction was to wonder if ants could be trained in any way. Despite their amazing ability to organize and cooperate within their colony, I doubt they could be "trained" to do anything that was not part of their hardwired behavior.

However, since this is a science fiction story, we could devise a high-tech way to control these ant warriors with electronic devices attached to their bodies, which would basically trigger their instinctive behavior using external stimuli.

The stimuli would sort of "trick the ants" into responding to the alien bugs the way they do in the wild when an attacker threatens the colony, or when they team to up bring down a prey.

Unlike true "training", however, the instant the electronic stimuli ceased to influence the ants behavior, the ants would revert to normal.

And while we're attaching devices to these warrior ants that we don't want to have ripped off in battle, we might as well design them as a sort of "harness" that fits around the thorax.

This is a very simple (crude) "sketch" of what I mean. What I really have in mind is cool-looking partial body armor that protects the ant in battle.
