I didn't quite know what to make of this movie. It's not funny, but that's no surprise because it wasn't meant to be a comedy. And yet it's not overly dramatic, either.

It's right in the middle, which means it's nothin' to write home about. Not even a quick text message.

The robot never surprises us by suddenly showing more intelligence than it was supposed to possess. Frank Langella plays a "retired" jewel thief who starts out as a cranky old guy and evolves into . . . a cranky old guy with a plan to steal a collectible book.

Thrilling, right? Rolling Eyes

The robot looks like a poor man's version of Asimo — a real robot who walks and talks! That, unfortunately, is exactly why the one is this movie is so unimpressive.

The filmmakers created a suit that was just a less appealing version of an actual robot, and then they stuck a short person into it. I mean, come on — why not glitz up Asimo's design just a little to compensate for the fact that this "robot" is just another robot suit?

Honetly, I've seen costumes at conventions that showed more imagination than this refrigerator with limbs!

I kept waiting for the story to give me the payoff for sitting through all the dull stuff, but it just never came. The movie starts out with a whimper and ends . . . when the whimpering finally stops.

If you're in the mood for a robot double feature, watch this one first and then Short Circuit. You'll definitely believe that "Number 5 is alive!" Or better yet, watch this video about Asimo and marvel at how impressive that little guy really is!

I found this terrific video about Asimo. This little guy could star in a movie with ease!

Did it ever occur to you that if the Japanese can make Asimo, then could build a working Robby?

Yes, they could, and their version could walk up steps and sit down to pilot star ships! We should hire them to make a version to star in the remake of Forbidden Planet! Cool
