Ah-ha! Fascinating. (As Spock would say.) Very Happy

So, if one brother regenerated as a male, and the other one as a female, then they would no longer be "identical twin brothers" — they would be "fraternal twins" who were brother and sister!

However, let's examine this a bit more closely . . .

Since their identical DNA is what made them twins at birth, and since they are now two different genders who no longer share identical DNA — are they still actually related? Confused

If not, could this man and woman do the Buck Naked Tango and produce a child who was NOT the product of an incestuous sexual relations? Shocked

Inquiring minds want answers to these questions!

Gord, I don't think this problem can be solved with the flip of a coin . . .

According to the "mythos" surrounding the DOCTOR upon regeneration a segment of his/her dna gets scrambled, therefore changing his/her genome but leaving the Time Lord dna intact. All regenerations have been adults of various ages...never a child or teenage individual.

So...I guess in answer to your question...I guess they could. There was a story about "The Doctors Daughter" and it was never made quite clear just who her mom was!

That's the new DW. From what I've read, in the original DW it was stated you don't change gender on regeneration. You're stuck with the gender you were born with.

That's true. No Time Lord who regenerated was ever seen changing his or her sex in the series. not that we saw many other regenerations outside of the Doctor himself! The only others we saw was his mentor K'anpo Rimpoche change from a old white bearded man into a younger grey haired plumper man! We did see Borusa, his old teacher at school as played by different actors from 1976-83 but we never saw him regenerate and he was always played by an older actor, not getting younger with each successive regeneration like the Doctor! We only ever see the Master change once and that was not in truth a regeneration but the dying, burnt evil Time Lord take over the body of Tremas, a friend of the Doctor's on Traken and using the Source, a power which enabled the Keeper to assume whichever form it desired in order to stay alive for a longer allotted span! Other Time Lords in the series that were shot or zapped usually died and didn't regenerate meaning that the damage done to their bodies was much too severe to enable the process to happen. That theory is also contradicted many times in the show as it went on!

Ok . . . after all these posts and erudite annunciations on the scientific / technical aspects of this film I have to admit . . . as a ten year old this movie's ending scared the HELL out of me!

David Hedisons "Help me . . . help me . . . " haunted my dreams for weeks!

I think that that scene with David Hedison crying out for help as the spider crawls towards him is one of the most horrific ones ever put on the silver screen.

Haunts me to this day.

The original ending was changed before the film's release and several scenes were cut which showed teleportation tests which failed because the objects David used were greatly reduced in size.

This explains why David's head and left arm shrank to "fly-size".

In the original version, as the spider was about to pounce on poor David Hedison, he pulled out a tiny can of Raid and sprayed the arachnid in the face! Shocked

Then he used the chemical compound in the insecticide to weaken the web strands and break free.

Perhaps the scene was removed because the mere thought of the poor half-man flying away, domed to live out his live as a tiny freak, was even more disturbing than the edited version. Confused

Well now wasn't he just a real MacGyver in that edited iteration?

Question: How could the human-with-the-fly-head and the fly-with-the-human-head both be intelligent?

The fly-with-the-human-head could actually talk, while the human-with-the-fly-head could write on the blackboard and yearn to kiss his wife! (Yuck!)

Here's a thought: What it they were telepathically linked — but only in the sense that they're divided brains comprised a single entity which was flooded with the sensory input from both bodies? Shocked
