That was also so true of TV productions. For example, when a killer got away with their heinous deeds on THE ALFRED HITCHCOCK HOUR old Al would come on in an epilogue to explain that the criminal got caught "off screen".

And Alfred Hitchcock made the explanations so ridiculous, that you couldn't take them seriously. Also to be fair the people that got away with the crimes in the episodes usually did so because their victims deserved their fate.

Someone once postulated just what would have happened if this little girl had lived to become an adult.

I replied that she would have become a politician & fit in beautifully in Washington, DC.

I always found that one of the most disturbing & horrific scenes in the movie was one where you did not see it happen.

Rhoda is playing the piano & we hear the screams of the caretaker (Henry Jones) who is on fire & then he dies.
It all takes place off screen but what a powerful moment.

That is exactly how I reacted to that scene the first time I saw it on the late show in the 1960s. It was so unpleasant to hear the muffled screams of the poor janitor down in the building's cellar as he was burning, and to see the complete unconcern of Rhoda as she played the piano.

Wow . . . creepy scene indeed.
