YouTube has a number of episodes from this great show, and the picture quality suggests that they're from the restored DVDs sold by Shout Factory.

From IMDB: The sheriff ignores an old prospector who claims he was almost run over by a driverless car in the desert. Once a geologist's wife is seriously injured by the same automobile, he takes matters seriously. The lawman determines that the vehicle is radio-controlled, but don't know who's operating it or why it's hitting people.

This is one of my most fondly remembered episodes — despite the fact that I'm now aware of many that are just as good. Very Happy

But rewatching it today, I was very impressed. The premise is relatively simple, once you learn the solution to the mystery.

The story, however, is well told, and it holds your interest right to the end. The driverless car is well-presented, and the scenes of it racing around the desert as if it's looking for victims are downright spooky! Very Happy

To me, this is a much more interesting story than a wacky horror movie about a possessed automobile! Rolling Eyes

Truman Bradley's wrap-up discusses the hope that automated cars will someday be a reality. And we're already seeing evidence of that today! Cars can now park themselves, and the auto industry is working on expanding such automation.

Chalk up another intelligent prediction for Science Fiction Theater
