YouTube has most of the episodes of this great show. The picture ranges from fair-to-good. Some of the videos were edited by the old Sci-Fi Channel, shortening them by three minutes.

From IMDB: A scientist thinks he can use a 50 million year old piece of amber with a spider encased within to produce synthetic oil.

Shades of Jurassic Park! Shocked

Gene Barry, the hero of War of the Worlds, returns in a much better story than the lame episodes in which he thought he saw a city on the sea floor — which turned out to be trick of the light. Rolling Eyes

This story, however, rocks! Cool

Gene is a gleefully enthusiast geologist who buys a piece of amber which encases a spider he hopes is a 100 million years old.

Sci-fi veteran Robert Clark is Gene's colleague, a professor of biology who identifies the species of the spider — but he can't be sure the amber isn't a fake, created to deceive collectors! Sad

The scientific discussion between Gene and Robert is delight to hear. But the conflicts between Gene and his lovely wife — who recently told her obsessed husband she was pregnant — is dramatic, in view of the fact that Gene is broke and can't afford to pursue his research on the fossilized specimen. Sad

Gene's lovely wife has no idea how valuable the amber stone is — but when the friendly pawn broker stops by to discuss the debt Gene owes him, she manages to arrange a meeting of all Gene's collectors, and she forms them into a corporation who will share in the profits when Gene's scientific discovery is revealed to world. Very Happy

Gene uses the amber rock to determine just how petroleum was formed in the prehistoric age, based on the composition of the Earth's atmosphere, millions of years ago.

This episode is the best example of how intelligent and imaginative Science Fiction Theatre frequently was. But this complex plot was obviously over the heads of the average audience member back in 1955. Sad

I hope it's not over the heads of the members of All Sci-Fi. It's up to you folks to show me that I'm right.
