Oceanus is a remarkable thirty-minute film, currently available on Youtube, from FutureDude Entertainment. Created & written by Jeffry Morris & Kimberly Benton, directed by Jeffry Morris.
After an earth-shattering cataclysm in 2029, a married team of aquatic researchers must fight to defend their spectacular underwater base ---- humanity's last hope for survival.
The year is 2029. Created as the ultimate city beneath the sea, the Oceanus Research Facility is a wonderous structure housing more than 300 scientists and engineers, including biologist Dr. Erin Kendall and her husband, engineer Sam Jordan.
After a devastating global disaster cuts the Oceanus Base off from the surface forever, the inhabitants must fight to survive as they establish a new undersea society ---- while fending off deadly attacks from unseen enemies trying to claim Oceanus for themselves.
Oceanus is a human drama with amazing aquatic technologies set against stunning unexplored locales.
Created with input from science advisors from NASA and the movie Gravity, Oceanus is written with an approach of plausibility and realism.
Note from me: I first saw previews to Oceanus a few years ago, and I was thoroughly impressed by its marvelous production values. Just last night, I saw the 30-minute film on Youtube last night and it was terrific looking. I love that it takes place beneath the seas, a setting that is rarely done in science fiction films or television series. This would make for an awesome production to be realized fully as either a feature film or weekly television show. |

Triton is the base computer.
Oceanus's ever-present computer, known to residents as Triton, gently shepherds activity minute-by-minute throughout the base. No mere robotic servant, Triton speaks with the warmth and authority of an old friend: alerting the inhabitants to changing conditions and potential problems and ultimately danger.
The Oceanus Undersea Research Facility is home to 312 scientists & engineers. The base is comprised of the upper Primary Dome which houses the Command Node, research labs, as well as docking ports for the AquaShuttles, Technology Capsules, and other vehicles.
The three lower Habitation Domes serve as living and recreation areas for the crew.
Note from me: The design for the Oceanus Base is an awesome looking one. It appears to be both futuristic as well as realistic. It dazzles you with its architecture and looks like a practical structure at the same time. |

Oceanus Aquashuttle: As the primary mode of transportation for ocean science & researchers, the Aquashuttle is designed for speed and observation. The two-person vehicle features a cockpit and science station and uses magneto-hydrodynamic propulsion to jet through the water. Its windows are made of "spinel" --- a transparent clay that can take tremendous pressure.

Cetacean Compod: The CC is a major breakthrough for interspecies communication. Its powerful transmitter is connected to a computer-based linguistic algorithm that can replicate the songs of marine mammals. The pod is designed to float at the surface and contains a living area and workspace for a single researcher. |

Oceanus Autonomous Drone: Autonomous robots are the primary workhouse of the Oceanus facility. From transport models that can carry modules like the Cetacean Control-Pod ---- to more elaborate construction drones, the aquatic engineering team rely on these mechanisms as their support in the challenging and potentially deadly undersea environment that they explore and work in ever single day. |

I've done script consulting for Jeffrey Morris, one of which was a feature-length script version of Oceanus, for which the short was a proof-of-concept.
He's currently filming a documentary called The Eagle Obsession (link) about Space: 1999's hero spaceships. He just filmed an interview with my friend Bill George of ILM last week. _________________ * * *
