This is not a movie I'm fond of, but Jimbo Berkey's old website, Free Classic Movies (now defunct) has comments about They Came from Beyond Space (along with the link to watch it or download it) that gives me a strong urge to try the movie again — and pop up a large bowl of popcorn. Very Happy

You may need two bowls of hot buttered popcorn for this 1960's science fiction adventure.

It is 1967 - two years before the Americans promised to land a man on the moon. In rural England, the land of Doctor Who, there is a meteor 'shower' that lands on a farm in the formation of a perfect 'V'. Doctor Temple, a famous scientist that writes about life on other planets is consulted and asked to investigate, but because he is recovering from a bad car crash, he is forbidden to go.

Instead his entire staff goes to the crash site, including his girlfriend Lee, who has some of the reddest, BIG hair that was popular in the 1960's.

When the team unearths the meteors, and one of the members gives a chunk of meteor a bang with a hammer, there are flashes of light, strange camera effects, and each member of the team is invaded by an alien from . . . the moon!

The team quickly goes about invading other earth people of England and setting about strange construction on the farm. They drain all of their bank accounts, invade a banker and get him to advance them millions of pounds, and some great construction project is undertaken.

Next, a strange 'Blood Plague' infects the nearby town, and people die quickly and suddenly, covered with spots of blood. Dr. Temple is not affected by the aliens, and they cannot seem to invade or infect his body. It turns out that because of his auto accident, he has a silver plate in his head, and it is this silver plate that protects him from the aliens.

When he is able to infiltrate the farm, he discovers that the aliens are shipping the blood plague bodies to the moon for some reason. Can the Doctor find a way to stop the moon people from completing their dastardly plan? Will the Doctor go to the moon on one of their ships? Will the Doctor meet the Master of the Moon when he gets there? Will the Doctor ever be able to return to the earth? Will the earth be doomed by the Master of the Moon?

Buckle up, grab your popcorn, and enjoy a trip to the moon and back courtesy of our British brothers a full year before the American Yanks can accomplish that feat!

I have not seen this one yet, but your description sounds very much like QUATERMASS 2/ ENEMY FROM SPACE, which was released 10 years earlier. Bud, you have seen it- do you think it was based on that movie/TV series/book?

Hey, I never thought of that, and I think you're right. Two British productions with a ten year difference that gives the producers of the second one plenty of chances to get "inspired" by the first one.

The movie isn't really very good. In fact, this is what Wikipedia says about.

The film was released on a double bill with The Terrornauts. Director Freddie Francis says that the producers had spent all their budget on The Terrornauts so there was no money left over for They Came from Beyond Space.

The double bill failed at the box office and has been described as "the two worst films the company ever produced"

The secret to enjoying this movie is to keep your
expectations low and don't insist on being absolutely sober all the way through it. Very Happy But don't get drunk before you start the movie or you'll fall asleep and miss the unexciting anticlimax.

A low budget alien invasion tale courtesy of Amicus, which produced the two Dr. Who films with Peter Cushing the year before, so the style and flavor recall those earlier films. The film begins with a small meteor bombardment in rural England. A team of scientists go to the site to check things out and their bodies are taken over by alien intelligences from inside the meteorites. From then on, the hero of the piece is a lone scientist (Robert Hutton) who remains unaffected due to a metal plate in his head (from an accident some months before).

Some of this also recalls the Quatermass films, though geared towards a more juvenile audience. Michael Gough shows up near the end as the leader of the aliens and explains all their goals and motivations. It's all rather quaint and naive. The poster is misleading, as there are no such space babes dressed that way in the actual film.

I remember reading that the movie is based off the book, "The Gods Hate Kansas". I've never read the book, but considering the changes they made with "Terrornauts" from "The Wailing Asteroid" (a good book), it's my bet that they aren't that close.
