Mr. Arness is, of course, best remembered by the general public as Marshall Matt Dillon of "Gunsmoke".

But science fiction fans credit Mr. Arness for his worthy portrayal of Hollywood's most ruthless alien invader in "The Thing from Another World" (1951).

Two years later he played a tough FBI agent who finds himself pitted against "Them!", a plague of giant radiation-mutated ants. Unfortunately these two fine motion pictures were preceded by "Two Lost Worlds" in 1950, a 61 minute mini-movie whose only special effects were borrowed from "One Million B.C.".
