Mr. Carlson holds an honored place in the ranks of sci-fi alumni, even though he only appeared five films. "The Creature from the Black Lagoon" (1954) is probably the most famous of the five, but "It Came from Outer Space" (1953) contains Mr. Carlson's best performance.

Unfortunately the least worthy film Carlson was associated with is "Riders to the Stars" (1954), which he not only starred in but also directed. His most unusual film is "The Maze" (1953) a surrealistic story in 3-D from director William Cameron Menzies. In 1968 Carlson wrote the screenplay for Ivan Tors' production of "Island of the Lost", a project which must have looked much better on paper.

Carlson also appeared in "The Magnetic Monster" (1953), a low-budget but interesting yarn with a unique basic concept. In 1969 he starred in "The Valley of Gwangi", a Ray Harryhausen animation-fest.
