Eadie pointed out that at most funerals people wear their best clothes. She pointed out that neither Dr. Ed "Sloppy" Morbius or his daughter "Ditto" did-so. SO I showed her these three pictures:

She said they were perfect!

E. E. "Doc" Smith at the 1956 World Con. Forbidden Planet had a special screening because of his influence and friend A. Arnold "Buddy" Gillespie's friendship.

A screenshot of the library changing from the "geometrical theorems" page to the next page:

I have these in my collection. I purchased copies from Bill Malone back in the late 1970s. The 'geometrical" page:

The next page:

Frank Lloyd Wright was a close friend and mentor to Arthur Lonergan. Mr.Lnergan was showing the designs and plans of the Morbius house to him and asked if it was suitable as a futuristic design. Mr. Wright agreed tht it was and tried his talents to a possible 2nd floor for a now discarded sceen. This is it:

Interesting.. It seems as if Mr. Wright expected that Morbius would have expected a larger family! (I found this while doing research on the Key City Project for Ellis Island (cf The Retro-Future Thread. The original is much larger, I had to take screenshots [9 of them] and piece them together and then reduce it.)

I accidentally posted the same picture twice, this one:

It was supposed to be this one (I purchased it from Bill Malone):

It's the close-up of this:

Sorry about the mix up. Just confusion during the holidays with so much to do!

Just how did Dr. Morbius communicate with the C-57-D? I suspect that the Krell complex had it's own com center:

A hand colored still based upon the actual set colors:

The master control center. (From Battle Of The Worlds [1961] starring Claude Rains as Professor Benson.):

Using the blueprints as a guide the layout of the "house of tomorrow" residence, the tunnel and the lab:

The oldest and most famous of the cartoons:

Butch said that he always liked the neon sign on top of the Orpheum Theater where Forbidden Planet played in Seattle. The theater was torn down in the Summer of 1961, the sign is now in the Great Northern RR Museum in Minneapolis:

So, this may have been mentioned up thread, but does anyone know what sound stages held which sets for Forbidden Planet? I read it was shot at MGM Culver, but I've not been able to determine anything further.

It is listed in the CineFantastic double issue article by Steve Rubin on Forbidden Planet. I'll have to re-read the issue. After Robby was stolen through time (see The Invisible Boy 1957), the crew of the C-57-D went looking for him. They did not like what they found!

Glancing through the Cinefastique issue in question I can see some set numbers but not the stages which held each set. I'll have to read it read it as opposed to skimming I guess.

Stages 20 to 30 were used. Stage 30 was used because it was the sunken pool at the Morbius "house of Tomorrow" and the Munchkin Village pool in The Wizard of Oz (1939). The Munchkin land sets where the Morbius house was filmed:

The Throne of Oz set where the Krell lab was filmed:

That set was designed for SFX and re-designed for Forbidden Planet's high voltage lab effects.

A picture from Deviant Art that needed a lot of clean up:

BUD, please do that link thing you do (the larger is the second of the pictures).
Thanks!

I don't think so. We should be able to click on the picture to get the larger one as in the Starlog articles?

I have a suggestion on how the D R Fence posts were drilled. The C-57-D had one of these drill carts as seen in The Green Slime (1968) [ガンマー第3号 宇宙大作戦 Ganmā Daisan Gō: Uchū Daisakusen]:

For your enjoyment Space Babes Vs. Space Dogs (or wolves like Lt. Farman)!:

I found this:

It's the Bosun at his last public appearance before his death on July 22, 2005 from injuries he sustained during a fall while on vacation in Pisa, Italy.

he was a WWII veteran and beachmaster in the Pacific theater. No wonder he was so good as the Bosun because he was one!

You're right, I made a mistake when I added the link to the 1,193 pixel version.

Sorry about that. It's fixed now. Thanks for letting me know about the mistake. Embarassed

I'm curious as to why Eadie wanted a picture with so little detail to be available as a larger image. It really looks no different at 700 pixels wide than in the 1,193 pixel version.

However, as I Eadie in the PM yesterday, I'll be happy to rig up any image you or Eadie want me to create a version of with an embedded link. It's eay to do, causes no problems for All Sci-Fi the way posting large images directly in a thread does.

Eadie did exactly what I asked her to do yesterday when she uploaded a "post-able sized" image AND a larger version to Imgur so that I could embed the link to the larger one in the smaller one which displays in her post.

Just FYI: the method I've demonstrated for embedding a link to a much larger size is useful for things like images with a large amount of detail, or images of magazine or book pages which need to be clear enough to read.

By the way, Eadie sent me a PM yesterday to say she was now able to resize her jpegs on her computer, and I asked her to be sure to show you how to do it so that the images on your posts were 700 pixels wide of smaller.

However, a few of the jegs you both added in today's posts were larger than 700 pixels wide. I resized them for you. Very Happy

Remember the post I made in the thread with the Starlog Buck Rogers article which quoted the Star Trek BBS posting rule about jpeg sizes?

____________________________

Picture size. Short guide: The smaller, the better. If it stretches the page, you've messed up. Also - if you're quoting someone who used pictures in their post, there's no need to repeat that picture in your thread.

And also the screenshot of Imgur's auto-resize menu.

So, my request for jpegs is to be 700 pixels or smaller is not just my own quirky idea. Bigger images DO "stretch the page" (unless a person happens to be using one of the larger displays).

I appreciate the kind cooperation of our members in helping us make All Sci-Fi look as appealing and user friendly as possible. Cool

That Imgur menu is only accessible from the screen you get when you select "Images" from the menu that pops up when you click on your name in the upper right corner.

Unfortunately, Butch, it doesn't work. Sad

I set your Imgur account to auto resize at 640 px when I first created it for you, but I discovered that it doesn't make any difference (the way it did on Photobucket) when you upload an image. Sad

Since so many of your uploaded Imgur jpegs have been extremely large, it's obvious that my repeated attempts to fix this problem by selecting 640 px on the "auto resize" function of your Imgur account was a waste of time. Sad

It's just one of several glitches that Imgur has, all of which have been discussed and complained about on various forums created by Imgur users.

In short, Imgur ain't as great as we thought it was. Dammit . . .

Face it, Butch, you're just going to have to learn the simple procedure needed to resize your images on your computer BEFORE you upload them to Imgur. Bear in mind that Wayne has been doing it for years.

And I've been doing it for years, too.

And Eadie recently learned how to do it as well, so she'll gladly teach you how to do it if you'll let her. She's a brilliant young lady (just 18 years old), and she's very dedicated to you, her Godfather.

As for the sad fact that Imgur is not as reliable as we thought because it has several frustrating glitches, you'll just have to work around them the way the rest of us are doing. After all, we struggled with Photobucket's infuriating glitches for over a decade, and the only reason we stopped using it was because they went crazy and destroyed their own reputation with stupid business decisions!

However, if you'd like to try sending Imgur's support staff an email (like I've done several times), here's the link.

https://help.imgur.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

I sent them a detailed message a few days ago about the fact that the order of my images in all my albums has suddenly started scrambling themselves around — instead of remaining in the order they were downloaded, with the newest ones at the bottom of the list.

Today I got this cheery reply.

I have no idea if this means they've done a damn thing to fix the problem, but at least they replied to my email.

Photobucket support hasn't answered a single message I've sent them in the last eight months — even the ones I sent to asked them why I was unable to make a payment on my account to keep it active after they said it would take $399 to do that! Shocked

Anyway, Butch, the bottom line here is that you need to resize your images on your computer the way Sarah is now doing and forget about the way Photobucket used to do it. Unfortunately Imgur WON'T do it . . . and frankly I'm getting tired of doing it for you. Rolling Eyes

However, I'll gladly do the "linking thing" Eadie recently requested, as long as you and she will upload both a 700px image to display on All Sci-Fi and a larger one that I'll embed the code for in the smaller image you post.

However, please let me know which Imgur album you have put the large-and-small images in, because I've been having trouble finding them. Frankly your Imgur albums are somewhat disorganized. Sad

I'm sure that Eadie, our brilliant and youngest member, is on the verge of figuring out how to do the "linking thing" all by herself, and when she does, she'll patiently teach her beloved Godfather how to do it, too.

Or she'll just do it for him. Wink

I use the image program IRFANVIEW to resize, sharpen, crop etc. before I post to IMGUR. Saves time and I can do a lot of pre-editing.
