Land of the Giants was an Irwin Allen produced sci-fi television series that ran from 1968 to 1970. Set in 1983, the story tells the tale of the crew and passengers of the sub-orbital transport craft, Spindrift, on it's way from Los Angeles to London. During the flight, the ship is caught in a strange space storm and crashes on a world inhabited by beings identical to humans except for the fact they are twelve times larger than those on earth. Fortunately the Spindrift crashes in a park under heavy vegetation allowing the survivors to remain hidden (for the most part) from the "giants" who consider them curiousities at best and invaders at worst...

Occasionally, one or more of the characters would get caught which led the other members to embark on rescue missions to save them. This was the premise of most of the episodes...

Of course some encounters with giants went better than others as seen in this image...

Unfortunately, the show was cancelled after two seasons, leaving fans to ponder the eventual fate of the Spindrift and the humans aboard her.

The model shown here was produced by Moebius Models in 1/128 scale and is about 4 inches long.
A cardboard interior was included with the kit. LED lighting was added by me and features flashing orange LED's to light the engine grill intakes and exhaust ports.
The ship is mounted to a brass tube which plugs into a wooden base painted to resemble the show's logo. Power is provided by a slide switch connected to a 9V battery hidden in the base.
