I'm not sure what to make of this.

Melissa Benoist As Kara Zor-El, Linda Lee Danvers AKA Supergirl:

I'd prefer that her shirt was a brighter blue.

The colors are reflective of the way they are in the comics now. Did anyone notice that she no longer has bare legs? She's wearing dark brownish tights!

I think the Supergirl character is a lost cause. The basic idea defeats it completely. Think about it.

She has to be young because her name is Supergirl. Unlike Superman, who had a life as Superboy, there's never been an older version of Supergirl called Superwoman.

And let's face it, even if she did mature and turn into the Kougar from Krypton, she'll look increasingly inappropriate in her hot little cheerleader costume.

That costume is the other big problem. Versions of it range from embarrassingly conservative to insanely hot. The one in Eadie's post verges on matronly; Supergranny could wear it without feeling immodest.

The torso portion doesn't exactly show her bumps and dips, the legs are covered in dark leotards, the boots have "sensible" heels like our mothers would wear to church, and the dress hangs there like a window curtain in a ice fishing shack.

At the other end of the spectrum are these two suggestions . . .

If she wore that on Kyrpton, I don't think the planet exploded — it just burned to the ground when she stepped out of the house! Shocked

Everything in between the two extremes is just a doomed attempt to blend the granny outfit with the Vegas costume. The result always looks like a cheerleader from the 1980s, wearing borrowed boots.

So, when all is said and done, we end up with a super-powered blond cheerleader who has to worry about flying over crowds, because all the men will point up and exclaiming --

Look! Up in the sky!

It's a bird . . . it's a plane . . . it's . . .

. . . Britney Spears?
Shocked

Policeman on left: Look! Up in the sky!

Man on extreme right: It's a bird!

Woman next to policeman: It's a plane!

Man pointing: It's skimpy underwear!

Hmmm . . . somebody didn't get the joke.

Just in case my reference to Britney Spears was misunderstood . . .

I guess my point, Butch, is that you just told my joke over again and explained the punchline, instead of using the topical reference that made it subtle and funny. Confused

But hey, no harm done. Cool

And didn't we always wonder just why were those sophisticated city folks of Metropolis getting so excited about a bird or a plane being up in the air?

Martha Kent made Superman's costume, and she didn't think she needed to tell him that the red underwear went under the blue tights.

Yes, I think you're right. They were staring up at a guy flying around in his underwear!
Shocked

And just how did Martha use an Earth needle & thread on destructible cloth from Krypton we ask?

Oh my goodness, sir, the needle was man-made, but the thread was unraveled from the indestructible blankets baby Kal-El was wrapped in!

Let me explain step-by-step how the clever Mrs. Kent accomplished this super deed.

First she made a pattern for the costume in the time-honored fashion of our skilled Terran seamstresses. That part was easy as pie.

Then, to make the thread she would need, she cut a piece of the indestructible fabric and unraveled it . . . somehow.

Next, using the pattern she'd made, she cut the indestructible blankets into the pieces of the costume . . . somehow.

Then she sewed the pieces together to make the costume, including the belt and the boots . . . somehow.

After that she fashioned the Superman emblem for the chest and the cape, cleverly managing to prevent them from looking like stitched-on patches of fabric, sewed around the edges . . . somehow.

There now. I hope that clears up the matter for all those doubting Thomas' who might think the whole idea is the most ludicrous load of bullsh*t we've ever been fed in our entire lives.

It's cannon that the actual cutting and assembly of the pieces was done by Clark using his heat vision.

Right. So the uniform isn't indestructible after all. Heat can cut it up, and heat can melt it.

So, if Lex Luther can invent a heat ray that's as hot as Superman's heat vision, he could melt the uniform right off him and REALLY give these people something to stare up at!

Look, up in the sky! It's the moon!

It's a bird!

It's a plane!

By gum, I was right the first time!
