I think Rocky is flipping it about a horizontal axis in the plane of the door (i.e., top-to-bottom) rather than spinning it about an axis perpendicular to the door.

(Say... couldn't people with dyslexia just be considered X-Men with dyslex-o-vision?)

Yes, Orzel's got it. 306 to 90E would be spinning, not flipping. That could suggest yet an entirely different type of dyslexic condition. It might be accompanied by dizziness.

Michael Rennie's suit from the DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL (1951) as it appeared in THE ROCKET MAN (1954)

Oh boy, this is the kind of thing I love doing, finding props from beloved movies and solving little mysteries connected with them.

The mystery this time is whether or not this is Klaatu's helmet and suit. The first part is easy. That is definitely Klaatu's helmet.

And as for the suit, the rings on the collars match, but the sleeve rings on the "Rocket Man" suit are on the wrist, while the rings on Klaatu's suit are on the forearms. If it is Klaatu's suit, some alien seamstress has been hard at work making alterations. She probably had to take it in a little, because Michael Rennie was a tall, broad-shouldered fellow.

But you'd think the skilled non-human tailor with her nimble thimble would have told the poor alien guy how to wear the suit correctly!

Both were 20th Century Fox films, thus used the same costume warehouse. Unless they had a spare lying around it would be the same costume, I suppose. I wasn't familiar with The Rocket Man. Charles Coburn and Spring Byington in a low-budget sci-fi scripted by Lenny Bruce? Waa?

I wonder why the slope on the flat section between the dome and the outer edge looks steeper than it should. And someone seems to have added a bulge beneath it, preventing it from having the flat bottom it originally had.

I found the same picture at this site, but it doesn't say who owns the model.

The bottom additions were done for Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea (ABC 1964 - 1968).

As Butch wrote, the changers were made for a very good first season episode of VTTBOTS, where it housed a mini shuttle saucer. Bob Burns owns the saucer, he had it on display at the 96 World con. I asked him if he had the mini saucer, but he said that it was long gone before he got it.

It is the same model, the shallow dome piece on the bottom, was added to the saucer model for the "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea" episode, "The Sky is Falling". In the episode, the underside dome held a small shuttle saucer that would dock with the Seaview.
