____________

Sorry, the synopsis I had here earlier from IMDB was for the wrong film! This one is from film critic Brian J. Dillard.

At a cancer research lab off the coast of Ireland, a group of scientists dies under mysterious circumstances.

Before anyone notices their demise, the human and bovine inhabitants of the island's lone, tiny village begin to turn up dead — with their bodies the consistency of tapioca pudding.

Renowned bone doctors Brian Stanley (Peter Cushing) and David West (Edward Judd) are dispatched from the mainland to solve this medical mystery. West's rich-girl paramour, Toni Merrill (Carole Gray), bribes her way into the expedition by providing air transport.

When daddy needs his plane back, the group becomes trapped on the isolated island just as the true extent of the science-run-amok menace becomes apparent.

One of three films Hammer horror vet Terence Fisher lensed for small British outfit Planet Studios, Island of Terror was followed by Island of the Burning Doomed.

From IMDB:

In this engaging costume melodrama of skulduggery on the low seas set back in the 18th-century, the Royal Crown suspects a bit of smuggling is going on in this locale, and they send Captain Collier and his crew to check it out.

As the Captain gets into his investigation, mysterious swamp phantoms cloud up the real issue which seems plain enough to see. Captain Collier suspects that the odd village vicar might be hiding something, and what better way to do that than by fortuitous ghosts to scare away the curious, or by posing as someone he is not?

Oh WOW! Not even close to the movie the poster is for. Laughing

Okay, how do you get that synopsis from a movie about cancer research gone horribly wrong?

Not a bad movie, but a bit gruesome in places.

A personal favorite. I love this movie.

I saw it at a drive-in on its original double-feature with the woefully disappointing THE PROJECTED MAN. That's the one which I thought would be such fun. And, uhh, it wasn't.

But then came ISLAND OF TERROR to save the evening. Terrific cast, nice script, strong direction, and, of course, the chicken noodle soup effects. Gross and wonderful.

I still think that this is the best "50's sci-fi movie" made since '62.

No biggie. I love this movie, although it did turn me off to noodle soup for a month. Very Happy

The island of the title is under threat from silicate creatures who were born out of experiments to cure cancer. The creatures feed off of bones, animal or human, so this tiny island community is in grave danger.

It's as bonkers as it sounds, a sci-fi horror of such ridiculous notions, it can't fail to entertain genre loving fans.

Terence Fisher directs and Peter Cushing stars, in what was a break from Hammer Films for the both of them.

The creatures are rubbery blobs with one deadly tentacle weaving their deadly damage, and they also bleed noodle soup. They move at a snails pace, which makes you wonder why the humans holed up in one "Rio Bravo" type situation and actually don't just out-run the damn beasties.

But wait! These things can somehow climb up buildings and trees.

The scientific possibility is really too nutty to comprehend! But it's so much fun, and there's Cushing (was he ever bad in anything?) holding court whilst others around him act at a level befitting the material.

It's no hidden gem or anything, but if you like the likes of "Day of the Triffids" and "The Monster That Challenged the World", then this should punch your joy joy genre buttons. 6.5/10

Great film and it's a shame that they didn't get a sexier actress in it instead of Carole Gray!
