Hello Morbius,

I did find this on Shapeways; it's hellishly expensive, though...

https://www.shapeways.com/marketplace?type=product&q=tobor

...and this one on Thingiverse (which I believe is free): https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4765576

A big thank you for the search. Yes $60 is a bit on the high side, but something to consider, thanks again. My searches have been less successful.

I thought that Shapeways one was far too expensive, especially since you still have to get the shield part separately Shocked But I guess some people buy the files then sell them as their own elsewhere. Crying or Very sad

The Thingiverse one looks to be free, though, and complete.

You're quite welcome. I figured I'd do a quick search where I thought I might find something since, I imagine, you still haven't gotten approved for Alphadrome.

It appears to have been a theme from the earliest days of sci-fi robots to depict them carrying women around. You'd think some robot designer would have eventually provided contoured arms for the purpose.

All posters show the monster or the robot carrying a lady who was just going out for the evening when she was abducted.

Gort is actually the only robot who got to carry a women in the movie . . . and she wasn't dressed up as nice as the one in the poster.

By gum, I couldn't resist the urge to search my Imgur album with all my posters, just to see many monsters and robots are shown with gorgeous girls.

And here's what I found! Forty posters which show hot babes being abducted, molested, or stalked by hideous fiends of various types! Egad!!! Shocked

Enjoy! _

This one is notable because the girl appears to have been dropped, rather than being carried. Very Happy

In this case the hot chick is no damsel in distress!

____

Okay, so Fu Manchu is not a monster or a robot, but he sure knows how to pick up chicks! Very Happy

________

This one gets an award for actually having a monster that gropes and grabs gorgeous girls! Cool

__________

Honorable mention for the monsters who snatch young gals right our of their beds!

_____

_____ _

I like both versions of this poster. Very Happy

I couldn't resist making the obvious modification to this one.

I like this one because the creature looks like he's about to kiss the girl . . . but not exactly on the lips! Laughing

_____________

And finally, of course, there's the movie in which the monster IS the women, and she's showing more of herself than any of the others . . . especially to the shocked men standing right under her! Shocked

Interesting observation. I wonder what the logic was to portray women as so vulnerable? If the women were replaced with men what would that do?

Aside from the obvious titillation factor, maybe it had something to do with trying to "reset" society to traditional gender roles after women got a taste of independence during WWII?

I wonder if more men than women, like, appreciate, watch Sci-Fi, or is it about equal?

I don't actually know if science fiction is enjoyed by roughly the same number of men and women, but the posters above were clearly meant to appeal to men. All the gals in those posters are simply "damsels in distress" who need to be rescued by a macho hero.

After all, when those posters were painted, society blatantly promoted the idea that it was a Man's World, the husband was the head of the family, women were the weaker of the sexes, and a woman wasn't attractive if she tried to compete with men.

In short, women were told not worry their pretty little heads about things like business, politics, science, etc. Rolling Eyes

But of course, times have changed.

And yet, what has NOT changed is the simple fact that a beautiful woman can knock us for a loop just by showing up and flashing a nice smile — while men tend to feel that they have to do something spectacular just to make an impression.

For sci-fi lovin' nerds, this is especially true. We're outgunned and we know it. Sad

I think Sci-Fi has traditionally been seen as a primarily "male" thing; specifically targeting young boys. I don't think girls of the 50s-60s would have been encouraged to pursue an interest in SF since it wasn't washing dishes and having babies.

The exception I noticed was in the mid-80s when I got into Doctor Who and the majority of fans (in the US) were female (in my experience of traveling to DW cons around the mid-west, anyway).

And we see studios producing lavish epic SF movies that will have---more and more often than ever before---a female protagonist.

Ellen Ripley in Alien & Aliens, Sarah Connor in the Terminator franchise, Casey Newton in Tomorrowland.

The superhero films have really done a splendid job of making the female heroes as important as the male ones.

Sue Storm, Jean Grey, Mystique, Wonder Woman, Scarlet Witch, Captain Marvel, The Wasp, Storm. Television has given us Supergirl, Stargirl, Rita Farr & Crazy Jane of Doom Patrol, Batwoman.

So the men may still outnumber the women in movies and on television, the ladies are most certainly moving forward and making their mark so that SF is not a males only membership. SF is gaining more female fans compared to past decades. Things are certainly shifting compared to the 50's & 60's, etc. And that's a good thing.

Which I certainly have no problem with, in general. In the 80s I was part of an animation group that imported anime to the US from Japan and the vast majority of their stuff had female protagonists and we all thought it was great.

I thought it was nice that Them! had an actual female scientist and not just her father's assistant/secretary, especially when compared to, say, the female characters in Tobor the Great and The Invisible Boy; yikes.
Shocked
