______________

Despite his fame as the nervous and greedy banker in "The Beverly Hillbillies", Raymond Bailey has played doctors and scientists so often he should have received an honorary degree from Harvard! His most powerful and effective performance was undoubtedly as Dr. Wahrman in "The Space Children" (1958), in which he uttered the line I use as my signature (see below).

He's appeared in fifteen science fiction movies and television shows. Raymond Bailey passed away in 1980 at the age of 75. His list of credits include —

Tales of Tomorrow (TV Series)
* The Lonesome Village (1953)
* Ice from Space (1952)

Tarantula (1955)

Science Fiction Theatre (TV Series)
* The Long Day (1955)

The Incredible Shrinking Man (1957)

The Space Children (1958)

Alcoa Presents: One Step Beyond (TV Series)
* Brainwave (1959)

The Man and the Challenge (TV Series)
* The Windowless Room (1960)
* Sphere of No Return (1959)

The Absent Minded Professor (1961)

Five Weeks in a Balloon (1962)

The Twilight Zone (TV Series)
* From Agnes - with Love (1964)
* Back There (1961)
* Escape Clause (1959)

The Strongest Man in the World (1975)

I've always enjoyed Raymond Bailey's versatility.

Yes, he did a great job in The Beverly Hillbillies, and excited a few good laughs, but he was not a "One Trick Pony". He was a very adept actor who could take on anything from comedy to serious, dramatic roles with ease.

I don't think too many folks are, or were, aware of this man's range as an actor.
