_____
[Also released as: "They Came from Within" and "The Parasite Murderers"]
Gore fans will love this grisly tale about parasites that gobble their victims from inside, like termites.
After the parasites have invaded a body, their feeding frenzy is set off by sexual excitement, so you can expect a few semi-porno scenes to be interrupted by full-fledged gore scenes. The story takes place in a high-rise apartment complex where the parasites run through the tenants (literally).
A film designed to do for sex what "Jaws" did for swimming.
Director David Cronenberg ("Rabid", "Scanners", "Videodrome") specializes in this kind of thing. Starring Barbara Steele, Joe Silver, Paul Hampton, and Lyn Lowry. _________________ ____________

IMDB has several interesting trivia items for this production.
________________________________
~ Canadian journalist Robert Fulford attacked the movie in the magazine "Saturday Night."
Since it was partially financed by the National Film Board of Canada (NFB/ONF), Fulford headlined the article "You Should Know How Bad this Movie Is: You Paid for It."
David Cronenberg said the article not only made it more difficult to obtain funding for his subsequent movies, it got him kicked out of his Toronto apartment.
Note from me: Wow . . . talk about the power of the press!
~ David Cronenberg cast Lynn Lowry as Nurse Forsythe because of her haunting eyes and strange screen presence.
Note from me: I don't see "haunting" or "strange" — just "very beautiful". She reminds me of Susan Day.
________
________
~ The BBC's film critic Barry Norman always cited this as the worst film he ever saw.
Note from me: Wow, that is NOT the endorsement a filmmaker wants to get!
~ Barbara Steele's bathtub scene features a leg double in the shots of the slug in the tub near her.
Note from me: We can see clearly that Miss Steele's legs are just fine, so I don't understand why here own legs weren't use.

__________
~ Toward the end of the film, the 'infected' jump into a pool. According to audio commentary with crew and critics, many crew members took off their clothes and jumped in. The footage remained in the final cut.
Note from me: My goodness, what a happy crowd!
~ Thus proving the old Hollywood adage, "A naked film crew is a happy film crew!" _________________ ____________
