Movie-goers got their money's worth in 1972 with "Blackula" from American International Pictures, but "Blackenstein" is a poorly done attempt by an outfit called Exclusive International, intended to cash in on the AIP hit.
Andrea King, Ivory Stone, and Liz Renay star in this story of a mad doctor (John Hart) whose evil experiments turn a black Vietnam veteran into a monster. And if the monster really looked like he does in the poster above, audiences must have laughed themselves to death! 
The only noteworthy aspect of the film is the equipment in the doctor's lab; it was created by veteran special effects ace Ken Strickfaden, the man who helped design the lab equipment for the original Frankenstein movies. Directed by William A. Levy.

It is the laboratory equipment from the Frankenstein movies, Mr. Strickfaden owned the equipment and kept it in working order. The laboratory equipment was also used in "Young Frankenstein". Mel Brooks was very happy that he could use the Frankenstein laboratory equipment in his movie.
I recall Mel Brooks saying that these devices were made for "The Bride of Frankenstein".

I guess we should be grateful that other classic Universal monsters weren't used in "blaxploitation" movies! Imagine the questionable titles they might have used!
