BREAKING NEWS! - DINOSAURS ATTACK!

Do you like dinosaurs? Do you like it when they attack? Do you like it when they tear people up? Question
_______

_______

Over 20 years ago, in an attempt to recapture the success (sort of) of their infamous Mars Attacks! (1962) cards, Topps presented their Dinosaurs Attack! card set - 55 cards plus 11 sticker cards. Most of the art was by Chet Darmstaedter (also known as Xno), with some paintings by Earl Norem and John Pound. Topps also employed some real life people to 'play the parts' of a couple of characters, such as the hero scientist.

I bought a box of 48 packs probably about a decade ago — this was at a used bookstore or something.
_______

I finally decided to open up a few packs the other day (take note: gum does not last very well for the span of a couple of decades or so). Here's what I found:

The story line of the card set concerned an experiment which goes very wrong — accidentally transporting a whole bunch of dinosaurs into our present times.

The dinosaurs wreak havoc, usually killing various people and military personnel in bloody ways. Some of the dinosaurs were depicted as quite huge, almost Kaiju-style monsters. There was also the intro of a devil-like Dinosaur demon towards the end.

Director Tim Burton bought the rights to these and planned to make a film version, by some accounts, but there were other Dinosaur films being planned or made (early nineties), so Burton changed his plans to make Mars Attacks (1996).

However, he must still have the rights and rumors continue that he will make the Dinosaurs Attack film version soon.

Found the great site below, devoted to the Dinosaurs Attack! cards.

It's a wonderful study of these cards and the story they tell. Enjoy!
