Here on All Sci-Fi, our members often share fond memoirs from their younger days — when they spent Saturday afternoons at matinee showings of science fiction, fantasy, and horror movies!
And our members frequently mention the movie theaters they remember from their youth — the places in which the spent so many happy hours while they watch the movies which changed their lives.
All Sci-Fi would like to salute a few of these theaters — most of which, unfortunately, no longer exist.

All Sci-Fi member Scotpens recently told me that the La Reina Theater in Sherman Oaks, CA was a favorite of his when he was growing up.
I can easily understand why this fine theater made such a strong impression him in his youth.
The architecture alone is impressive!
Plus, the marquee and main entrance were gorgeous!

One of All Sci-Fi's favorite contributors is Rick Pruitt, who has frequently posted wonderful anecdotal stories about his trips to the La Rose Theater near his home.
Sadly, this is the only image I can find of the exterior.
However, the interior is very impressive!
Rick's colorful tales of his monsterkid memories when he watched countless films eventually inspired me to create a cover for a "coffee table" book which describes his experiences.
All Sci-Fi has a thread which includes all of Rick's wonderful posts which describe his happy youth.
Memoirs of a Monster Kid ~ by Rick Pruitt
It already has four pages of replies!

My own boyhood memories of seeing inspiring science fiction movies were formed at one local drive-in theater with my family in the 1950s, and then a few years later in a neighborhood theater located in a nearby town which I traveled to on public but with my buddies.
The Roosevelt Drive-in was a favorite place my family went to in the 1950s to enjoy summer evenings under the stars, watching great movies and gobbling down questionable food from the snack bar . . .
My memories of those experiences included sitting in the back seat of 1957 Ford with my younger sister while we gazed between the shoulders of Mom and Dad, as aliens invader our planet!
Naturally my memories of Roosevelt Drive-in are a bit distorted by a somewhat mixed experience.
On one hand, there's my memory of the theater itself . . . and on other the hand there's my childhood visions of a sky filled with alien spacec craft!
I also have fond memories seeing Beyond the Tme Barrier at the when I was twelve years old, at the East Point Theater.
Folks, All Sci-Fi was created to give people like me a place to share memories like these.
I hope you'll share yours with us as well. _________________ ____________
