____

A very low-rated movie which, despite its reputation, has its good points.

The monster suits are fairly original in design (humpbacked reptilemen with solemn, woe begone faces that resemble mutated turtle heads). The monsters plan to take over Los Angeles and modify its climate to suit their own needs. They already infest the sewers beneath the city, and Robert Hutton struggles to warn the unbelieving populace of the danger.

If you brace yourself for less-than-skilled film making, you'll find some enjoyment in this one. Hutton also serves as director. Co-starring Les Tremayne ("War of the Worlds").

Enjoy the trailer or the MST3K version on Youtube.

I might just watch this one sometime, based on this IMDB trivia item.

Susan Hart didn't have to read for the role of Bonnie Galbraith; she was automatically cast on the basis of her attractive looks alone when she showed up for the casting session.

I have seen it, and even the MST treatment barely makes it watchable.

I love this movie. For me, it rates very high on the entertainment scale. I use my standard Citizen Kane analogy: Nobody will doubt that Citizen Kane is the superior movie but I've seen it five times and I can't take it any more...but The Slime People always entertains me.

For as long as I can remember, the evil Susan Hart has denied ever being in this movie.

Oh, I have it on DVD.

I am itchin' to see this movie, based on several things I've read, including Brent Gair's recommendation (and the fact that I'm tired of Citizen Kane too, even though I've seen it once!)

Check a few of the IMDB trivia items below. Very Happy

~ The scenes of devastation supposedly caused by the fight with the slime people (shown briefly while the group is driving away from the airport) is actually footage of the Santa Monica Mountains shortly after a wildfire swept through the area.

Note from me: Yes sir, if you're making a cut-rate movie that needs footage of a disaster area, just write the script to fit a real disaster area and then go out and shot it! Very Happy

~ In an interview, star/director Robert Hutton said that neither he nor the stuntmen were ever paid for their work in this film.

Note from me: How many times have we read about unscrupulous filmmakers who cheated their people out of the money they owed them! Rolling Eyes

~ Because of this film's low budget, Susan Hart was given only $35 to buy her own wardrobe.

Note from me: Okay, the obvious reason the filmmakers did this is actually two-fold; first, they were cheapskate — and second, they secretly wanted Susan to have very little to wear! Mr. Green

~ The producers originally planned to have creatures called voles in the film as well as the slime people. The voles would have been wolf-like animals from underground that had been domesticated by the slime people, but the were left out of the final script

Note from me: Wow! This movie needed to be made by better filmmakers and with a bigger budget. It had some great concepts!

~ According to director Robert Hutton in a 1989 interview, designing and making the slime people costumes consumed over half the film's entire budget.

Note from me:Lord A'mighty, the monsters are gorgeous! It looks it was inspired by Jack Kirby's great creatures.

_________

I repeat my statement above: This movie needed to be made by better filmmakers and with a bigger budget!

~ The two bums who appear in the theater are played by Joseph F. Robertson and Edward Finch Abrams, the film's producer and associate producer, respectively.

Note from me: Well now, ain't this ironic? The guys who made this movie so cheaply and then stiffed the director and the stuntmen were playing characters like their real selves.

Bums! Laughing

Voles are small rodents also known as field mice. They're cute little suckers!

Yes, but I'm sure these were Killer Voles, bred for size and ferocity. In fact, they were fed live Killer Shrews as a steady diet! Shocked
