______

This film's chief asset is a cast of sci fi veterans who struggle valiantly with a low-budget, low-imagination horror-adventure story.

A sunken ship containing a fortune in diamonds is the focal point for a group of treasure hunters who battle the zombies that guard it.

Low production values rob the film of its credibility (example: the underwater scenes aren't really underwater, just distorted and bubble-filled). The familiar and fondly remembered cast includes Allison Hayes ("Attack of 50-Foot Women"), Ray "Crash" Corrigan ("It! The Terror from Beyond Space"), Gregg Palmer ("The Creature Walks Among Us"), and -- best of all -- Morris Ankrum, who retained his dignity through well over a dozen sci-fi films in the 1950s.

Directed by Edward L. Cahn.

I first saw this on a Saturday afternoon TV broadcast about 50 years ago, and I thought it was pretty great. Well...maybe not great, but pretty good.

That was -- and remains -- a very lonely opinion. The little I knew about it in those days was that folks thought it was lousy. Even my friends at the time thought I'd gone around the bend when I told them I liked this one. I believed that I was literally the only person in the world who liked this movie.

Then, a couple of years later, I'm reading a copy of the late, still-lamented PHOTON magazine, and the writer, Ron Borst (who even then I knew was kind of top of the monster fan heap) said something favorable about ZOMBIES OF MORA TAU. Hallelujah! Not only was I not alone in the world, there was even a slight possibility that I wasn't crazy.

It's still not great, but it is still, in my opinion, pretty good. And I still might not be crazy.

No, Rick. You're ARE crazy. But so is everyone here — at least according to the "mundanes"; the 'reviewers', the 'criTICS' (who suck the life out of everything); etc.

So just Enjoy It! (To use Prof. Jacques Paganel's [Maurice Chevalier] words from In Search of the Castaways [1962].)

To get a wonderful viewpoint of "mundanes", they are the ones who created these fashions:

I'll definite watch that YouTube download then, Rick. Even though the file size is only about 200 MB, the picture is reasonably good. Here's a screen shot.

I'll let you know what I think of it after I've watched it.

Holy Mackerel, what a great deal! Shocked

Not only is this movie on Youtube, somebody recorded it right off TCM and included Robert Osborn's introduction! How cool is that? Cool

Quick, download this one before YouTube gets wise and yanks it!
