I've seen this one a couple of times, and I really liked it. When I was a kid in high school, back in the 1960s, I read the Fantastic Four comic that introduced the Silver Surfer, and I built a simple wire sculpture of him in art class — basically a dramatically posed stick figure on a wire-frame surf board with a pyramid stand, all made out of bent and brazed brass rods.

I've always been a big fan of comic book super heroes — which is why I wrote The Hero Experience.

The Fantastic Four are the "thinking man's" superheroes — hey put as much brain power into their defense and offense as the sheer might they can also bring to bear. That's what I like best about them.

I approve of the way this film made Dr. Doom the most immediate villain of the story (rather than Galactus, as the original comic book did) for several reasons. It gave us more personal interaction between the heroes and the villain, and we didn't have to endure a bad guy who was dressed like a Roman with a God complex. Very Happy

And if you saw this movie at a theater in 2006, you might have seen that amazing lobby display that put the Silver Surfer right out there in front of the concession stand.

Man, I'd love to have one of those in my living room! Of course, I'd have to sell off all the furniture . . .

The FF movies don't always get a lotta love but I thought they were fun too, Bud.

The cast was excellent. Alba is not who I'd have had play Sue, Kate Bosworth would have been my pick, or Gillian Jacobs. However, Jessica does a fine job. She's a decent actress that gets heavily criticized all the time. Never understood why?

And then there's the Fantasti-car we finely get to see! Cool design.

Sorry we won't see anymore sequels with this cast. Although Chris Evans most likely would not have continued essaying both the Johnny Storm & Steve Rogers roles at the same time I would imagine.

I just ordered the DVD of Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surer from Amazon ($6.86) instead of the Blu-ray, because I'm sick of all the annoying "bells and whistles" the damn BD's include!

It takes for-damn-ever to get to the movie started with BD's because of these online features, and I'm tired of putting up with crap like "Now downloading new previews from the internet"!

Jeez, play the movie, dammit! Sad

My six-year-old 47" LG television can barely tell the difference between most BD's and the better DVD's, so why should I put up with that stuff!

That Silver Surfer statue was AWESOME!

I kept looking for it on Ebay, but never saw one come up. I would imagine there must be a few dozen of them around someplace!

There was also a great Hulk statue used for movie promotions of Avengers/Ultron.

I can't say I've noticed any "now downloading extra stuff" delays with blu-rays, though of course they do come with lots of room for extras. I've got a blu-ray box set (well, in just the normal case) of the two FF movies; according to the back cover, the first film only has a cast commentary listed, but Rise of the Silver Surfer has ten extras. Admittedly, "Stills Galleries" doesn't sound too great, but "Extended & Deleted scenes with optional commentary" is always interesting to explore.

I still think it was wrong to reveal Galactus as a cloud rather than a giant guy in purple and pink! Hey, Bud, I bought those FF comics with Galactus and the silver Surfer's first appearances about twenty five years back and FF#48 cost me 85 pounds! A helluva lot of cash back then!

Good Lord, JB! That's $155 today . . . and the pound was worth even more compared to the U.S. dollar twenty-five years ago.

I couldn't find a site that had scans of the entire comic book, but I found three YouTube videos which present the entire "Galactacus Saga" beautifully frame-by-frame, with cool background music!

To read it, all you have to do is pause the video on each frame. That interrupts the music, of course, but it can't be helped.

After seeing Galactacus again — magnificently rendered by Jack Kirby — I no longer think that the movie might have had a hard time getting audiences to take Galactacus seriously if the movie had stuck reasonably close to the way he looks in the comic book.

He's mighty impressive! Very Happy

Interesting fact is that when Galactus first appears in the final frame of the comic, he isn't purple and pink but more like green and red! I kid you not! In reprints they've always changed the colouring to what we know and love!

Please forgive me, JB! I modified my post to include the YouTube videos after submitting it, and I didn't realize you had already replied!

Concerning Galactacus' color scheme, it's actually pinkish-red, purple, and dark blue in all three of the videos showing the the issues with Galactacus.

I'd forgotten what colors he was myself, actually. Very Happy

The second Fantastic Four movie was enjoyable, and even though I was very disappointed by the way they presented Galactus as Mr. Big Space Storm, the rest of the movie was fun to watch.

The trailer is jaw-dropping, and it had me just itchin' to see the movie when it came out.

One of the very best scenes in the movie is when Reed Richards verbally bitch slaps General Hagen when the arrogant SOB called the Fantastic Four "your pack of freaks". Reed's comeback was awesome! Very Happy

A sequel to 2005 box office winner, "The Fantastic Four", "Rise Of The Silver Surfer" sees director Tim Story and the original cast principals return for more super hero schlocky fun.

The story is based around the Marvel stories that featured the first appearance of said "Silver Surfer" in the comic book franchise. Silver Surfer (Doug Jones with Laurence Fishburne dubbing the voice) is acting as a herald for the planet devouring Galactus, the next target? Earth. Which is a bit untimely as Reed Richards/Mr Fantastic (Ioan Gruffudd) and Susan Storm/Invisible Woman (Jessica Alba) are trying to get married.

Things are further problematic when. after his first encounter with the Silver Surfer, Johnny Storm/Human Torch (Chris Evans) finds his powers a bit off — in fact, when he touches any of the others in the team their powers are exchanged, much to Ben Grimm/The Thing's (Michael Chiklis) amusement.

Not only that, the military is starting to get heavy and annoyed with the four — and who is this back on the scene? Doctor Doom! (Julian McMahon). Thought he was dead, and how come he's in league with the military now?

All of this issues must be addressed or the Earth will suffer the direst of consequences.

Budgeted at $130 million, this sequel only just made its money back domestically. However, the Worldwide takings gave it an overall profit of nearly $160 million — which when you consider that the first film (again raking the coin in) was met with very disdainful reviews (mostly warranted outside of Evans & Chiklis' efforts), it's somewhat surprising.

Yet, and it's certainly no towering genre picture, "Silver Surfer" is a hugely enjoyable movie for fans of the source comics and the undemanding popcorn muncher. The fans, and I don't speak for all of them of course, should in the main be happy that the makers have been faithful to the origins of the story.

There's also some nifty humour, and both Alba and Gruffudd aren't as dull as they were in the first movie. Perhaps they are more comfortable now knowing that the paying public held sway over the critics?. Evans is still the best thing in the franchise (no surprise he would go on to play "Captain America" in "The Avengers" franchise).

The appearance of Andre Braugher as General Hager is a welcome edition. While the effects are considerably better than the poor fodder served up in the first movie, granted it wouldn't have been hard to improve on that score.

With a lovely light-hearted approach, "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer" does its job. In the pantheon of super hero movies, it sits some where in the middle, neither great nor bad, just honest wholesome family fun.

20th Century Fox has announced that a reboot of the franchise is to come, so while Chris Evans goes off to mouth wateringly play "Captain America", the next lot of actors are charged with the not so easy task of winning over a tough comic book crowd, and the critics too. 6.5/10

Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame were packed with action and humor — but overall they had a darker feel than some of the older Marvel movies. And audiences world wide loved it. Those two films were adult superhero movies, with the right blend of the realism and fantasy.

I like the Fantastic Four movies, but I think one of the reasons they didn't do well general speaking was that they were less "rough around the edges" than the more recent movies, like Captain America: The Winter Soldier, for example

Seven years has made a difference in the way these films are made, which is why they've gotten even more successful.
