Splinter is another foreign body infestation movie. It's low budget and independently produced, but it's good.
The main story begins (following preliminary scenes at a remote gas station) out in the woods of some Midwestern state with a young married couple celebrating their anniversary on a camping trip. Upon structural failure of their tent, the outdoorsy wife accedes to her indoorsy husband's wishes to seek out a motel. They wind up at the gas station instead, besieged by infected former humans, now barely recognizable as such.
The movie is well executed, a good example of what can be accomplished on a limited budget by little-known actors and film crew. The only thing I found distracting--and this is a personal hangup--was actor Paulo Costanzo's pursed lips. You know, like Owen Wilson, only not quite so severe.
(The plot even involved circumstances that provided Paulo an excuse to purse his lips more than usual.) You may not object to the Owen Wilson Pursed Lips school of acting, but once the pursing starts, I can't focus on anything else, much to my annoyance. There. It's out in public.
Although I didn't test the idea, I suspect popcorn would top off the movie nicely. _________________ ...or not...

Nice write-up, Wayne!
My Netflix list had dwindled to nothing recently, and I started hyperventilating at the thought of the US Postal Service having absolutely none of those thin red envelopes in the mail headed my way!
So, I added Splinter to the list.
As a result my blood pressure and respiration have returned to normal, and my doctor assures me I'll live long enough to become a burden on society.
And I owe it all to you! _________________ ____________

Enjoy, Bud.
If you can get past the lip-acting. _________________ ...or not...

I've got this on Blu-ray and I very much enjoy it.
As I was watching it, I was nagged by that "where have I seen this actress before' question. The female lead seemed so familiar but I just didn't know what I knew her from.
I finally realized it was Jill Wagner, the hostess from the ABC TV show WIPEOUT.

My, my . . . Miss Wagner certainly seems to be well equipped to handle dangerous situations. In fact, she's a "dangerous situation" all by herself!
