These are most of the scifi TV series that I own. I have enjoyed them all. However, after watching them a second, third, and nth time, the enjoyment factor can diminish. Here is a list, in approximate order of REwatchability, of the sets I own. The highest titles are still very enjoyable. The titles at the bottom tend to put me to sleep:
-Science Fiction Theatre (1955-57)
-Tremors (2003)
-Red Dwarf (1988-1999)
-Special Unit 2 (2001-2002)
-Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (1981) (miniseries)
-Outer Limits (1963-1965)
-Tomorrowland- Disney in Space and Beyond (1940-1966)
(This is actually not a scifi series, but rather a collection of
space/future related segments)
-Futurama (1999~2013)
-Star Trek TNG
-Star Trek TOS
-Firefly (2002)
-Stargate SG-1 (1997-2007)
-Max Headroom (1985)
-Martian Chronicles (1980) (miniseries)
-Twilight Zone (1959—1964)
-Ray Bradbury Theater (1985-1992)
-Men into Space (1959)
-Fireball XL-5 (1962-1963) (great theme song)
-Tales of Tomorrow (1951-1953)
-Star Cops (1987)
-Space 1999 (1975-1977)
-Quark (1977) (lots of potential but very little kinetic)
-Stingray (1964)
Oh- and then there's Lost in Space. Don't own it, don't want it, and it will never get off the bottom of this list. It's the Gilligan's Island of science fiction. (see my followup message later in this thread)

You have "The Martian Chronicles" before "The Ray Bradbury Theatre"? That is just so wrong, in so many ways.
You left out "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea". The first two seasons were very good. But then the budget cuts, and the loss of the Fox backlot really hurt the series.

OK, I overemphasized my opinion of LIS, but I do still find it very non-entertaining. I'm just not into camp movies and TV shows. I must admit that it's one of the most colorful SF series I've seen (the non-B&W episodes). I'll even admit that I would rather watch it than a lot of other TV shows (although not necessarily scifi shows). Also, sitting on top of my monitor right now, there's a little 4" figure of B-9 the robot (when you press down on the top of his dome, he says "Warning! Warning!"), right next to a 4" Robby. So there -- I'm not a total loser. |

Yeah, I'm not a big Bradbury fan, but I thought that the strung-together stories of Martian Chronicals made a pretty good mini series. Ray does often tend to move ponderously on plot development, so some episodes of RB Theater drag on overly long (e.g., The Wind, The Screaming Woman), so I downgraded that series a few places on my list.
Yes, I left out Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea.
A few others I didn't mention are —
-All of the StarTrek series after TNG
-Battlestar Galacta (both versions)
-Land of the Giants
-Earth 2
They were left out because I don't own them, and like Lost in Space, I'm not interested enough to buy them, even though I have seen them all. Therefore, they would be very low on my list if I had included them.
I SHOULD HAVE included the first 2 Star Trek series. I have edited my list to add them. |

That phrase, "...or not...", is a standard part of my website signature, alltare. It appears on everything I post, along with the "Blah, blah, blah..." smiley. They're not a response to your specific post. I happen to agree with you wholeheartedly on LIS.

Something that I noticed about the later ST series was their chronic habit of double-plotting. They would have two crises arising simultaneously and switch back and forth between them through the episode. I felt they could have stuck with a single plot line and fleshed it out better, rather than resolving both at the end by having one of the regular characters suddenly come up with a new serum antidote and another with a transquantum remogrifying module.

My beef with Star Trek has always been that it's so damn preachy.
Even when I was 10 years old, I would think, "Geez, people have been teaching me lessons all day long...I don't want to listen to more lessons at home".
I've always had little tolerance for shows that were so serious and self-important. Star Trek was (and is) annoyingly pretentious. |

As Bulldogtrekker mentioned, we both love the new Science Fiction Theatre DVDs from Shout Factory, and the Men into Space series as well.
But the series I keep hoping will someday be restored and released on DVD with a high-quality picture is Rocky Jones, Space Ranger. It was the Star Trek TOS of the 1950s (without those preachy storylines that Brent strongly objects to.  )

My favorites to rewatch.
All of Trek (of course). While I love them all and have watched them all many times, I think I find Voyager the most enjoyable rewatch.
Firefly (still upset it was cancelled)
Farscape
Stargate SG-1
nuBSG
Fringe
Stargate Atlantis
Andromeda
Earth: Final Conflct
The 4400
I own all these and really enjoy pulling them out and experiencing them again.
I own the X-Files but don't know if that's really considered SCI-FI.

| The modern Star Trek series used an A story and a B story. Almost all episodes on all Star Trek series used that format as it was in the Technical Manual (AKA the Bible). |

Hey, I think Voyager is the best "Trek" series, too! I own the complete series on DVD, and I've watched all the episodes at least four times each!

I feel just the opposite about VOYAGER. I don't like that series, mainly because Kate Mulgrew's character just rubs me the wrong way.
My top two Star Trek likes are TOS and TNG.

Me too, Bud. As a kid, I watched it on TV but it didn't make much of an impression. Since then, I have re-seen a few episodes that make me now wish for the entire series in high quality. I don't get a lot of enjoyment from grainy nth generation YouTube images. |
