Gal Gadot

Lovely actress Gal Gadot has her new "Wonder Woman" film opening this past weekend. (Big future for this lady.
from Treks in Sci-fi).

I watched this today and was highly impressed! The story, the direction, the effects and Gal Gadot were ALL terrific!

It's no secret that Ares turned out to be the big bad, and I was totally surprised by the big reveal. I would have liked to have seen an after credits scene where the battered Ares got up to reveal him as Adolph Hitler, but that may be in a sequel if one comes.
I'd give it 4 1/2 stars out of 5!

Well, uh . . . sure, it's no surprise NOW . . .

Thank goodness I was spared THAT shock, eh?

________________________________

I went to see Wonder Woman today with my daughter and grandchildren, and I spent over two hours wondering why this movie was getting such good reviews! Sad

After a nice opening, the first hour was largely just dull dialog and Princess Diana picking out period costumes to wear so she wouldn't shock the folks in London in her leggy Amazon outfit.

The second hour finally had a quick action scene, but we'd already seen most of it in the trailer. And it overused the Matrix slow-mo effects so often it took 60 seconds to show each 20 seconds of action.

The big climax trotted out every blazing "energy" FX the filmmakers could think of, as the two combatants hurled CGI thunderbolts at each other without much regard for what all those blasts of light were supposed to be. It was more like a fireworks display than a climax. Shocked

Accord to an article in Vox

Peter Suderman wrote:
But there's one super-movie trope that Wonder Woman doesn't quite overcome: the noisy, bloated third act overstuffed with expensive but poorly rendered computer-generated special effects.

With its fire-lit nighttime color scheme, its clumsy bombast, and its weightless, slightly cartoony CGI, the climactic showdown between Wonder Woman and Ares, the God of War, feels like a hangover from the Zack Snyder era. It's a tension-free exercise in digital effects overload, and in a movie that otherwise feels so grounded in both physical and emotional reality, the sequence comes across as jarringly disconnected from either
.

In short, I can't think a single Marvel movie that isn't three times better than this puzzlingly popular film!

However, the good news is that the Regal theater we went to has been completely remodeled, and now it has those amazing motorized reclining high-back seats with footrests! Every row (except to the two in front) has a waist-high wall between it and the next one lower down, so you can't even see the seat backs in front of you, much less the people's heads.

Getting up to visit the rest room during the movie is as easy as leaving my sofa at home, because there's so much room between those walls and the elevated feet of the audience members!

So, the day wasn't a total loss. Very Happy

Those are great-looking seats, for sure. I feel that, if you pressed the right button, it would glide all the way to the rest room, and gently push you into an upright position. A few minor additions and Professor Xavier would feel right at home.

I know that in Britain we used to have cinemas called "Regal," and indeed our local one was the "Rex" - but I'm surprised that USA motion picture theaters go for such undemocratic names...
Shocked

December 12, 2017 by Warner Bros. and DC Films announced they were restructuring the DCEU following the poor reception and domestic box office performance of Justice League, and fans at the Brazil Comic Con got their first look at the new slate.

On the list are:
Wonder Woman II,
Aquaman,
Flashpoint,
Justice League Dark,
Suicide Squad 2,
Shazam,
Batgirl,
Green Lantern Corps
The Batman.

What's interesting there is not only the 2020 Cyborg movie off the list and Man of Steel 2, but so is Justice League 2. Interesting.

________________________________

IMDB has 133 trivia items for this movie. Here’s a few of the ones I found the most interesting, in the blue text. Very Happy
________________________________

~ Gal Gadot was a part of re-shoots for the movie (including stunts) while being five months pregnant. She was visibly pregnant so the crew created a costume which had a green screen around her belly, which was later removed during post-production.

Note from me: This sounds absolutely incredible . . . and a little creepy. Shocked

~ The discussion in the boat about "the pleasures of the flesh" was improvised.

Note from me: Sex is always best if it’s spontaneous. My ex-wife insisted we only do it every Thursday. By Wednesday evening, I was a nervous wreck!

~ Gal Gadot trained for nine months to gain seventeen pounds of pure muscle.

Note from me: . . . and an 8 lb 4 oz baby. Very Happy

~ Steve's timepiece is a pocket watch, adapted with a leather case to be worn on the wrist. Pocket watches were the norm at the time (they were usually worn on a chain), but they proved to be impractical in front line action. Because timing was critical for coordinating large-scale action, soldiers began wearing timepieces on their wrists.

Note from me: Nothing like a World War to inspire new ideas like wrist watches. If it weren’t for WWI, we might all still be wearing vests!

Lacks charisma, but this probably applies to most superhero blockbusters that have been produced so far.

I'm a big fan of pretty much all the Marvel superhero movies (except the dark and somewhat depressing Logan), but there hasn't been a single DC movie yet I really liked, including the Batman films.

That is probably because none of the same care is taken as in the various TV animated series and movies. Good stories and direction along with a talented cast. Check out Justice League Vs The Fatal Five (2019)!

Actually pronounced "hippo" (as in hippopotamus) "LIE" "ta" (as in lying, rhymes with die) Accent on the middle syllable.

I thought it was superb, and after just watching Captain Marvel I have to say that this is miles ahead in quality for a female led super hero movie.

What I liked most about this film is replacing the silly comic book goofed up retake on Greek mythology and replacing it with actual Greek mythology. Example the comic book version of how Diana came to be turned out to be a fairytale her mother told her as she was raising her in her childhood. This movie reminded me more of Clash Of The Titans and old Hercules movies than comic book movies. This is, to me, DC Comics best movie ever.

I am looking forward to Wonder Woman 1984. Some of my friends and I believe Diana will meet her father and uncle in Wonder Woman 1984. There is a promo shot of her dressed as an Olympian princess. We’ll see.
