I assume the illustrations in the comic were photos from the movie, rather than artwork. I'll bet the story is told as narration rather than speech balloons.

Interesting, Gord! Thanks.
Very Happy

Actually, the story is illustrated by EC artist George Evens.

Here are a few pages from that story.

Why not post the entire story or at least give us a link to it?

Archive.org has the comic, but I'm not sure the scans are as good as yours, Gord. Where did you get them?

May I have the honor of restoring the pages and posting the whole comic with my "embedded link" method?

In the article by Aric Jenkins, there is an artist's painting that won't load. Your post only shows this:

I contacted JPL and asked them for a better picture of the painting and they sent me what was sent to Wikipedia™, unfortunately that picture has the wrong color (the editors at "waki-wiki" apparently though it was to garish), so here is the correct one:

Hope this helps.

My copy was from Archives.org. I reduced the size, sharpened and color corrected the pages I posted.

Another copy of it can be found here:

http://digitalcomicmuseum.com/index.php?dlid=5558

Click on "preview" to read the entire book, or join in and you can download entire book. There are thousands of books on file.

Or HERE :

http://comicbookplus.com/?dlid=19208

The entire story is 36 pages, many of them full of "talking heads". I'd be glad to post them all, but what I posted above are the front and back covers, inside covers and the first and last few pages.

Bud, if you'd like to post it please feel free to do so.

After three days of intense work on the When Worlds Collide comic, I've final completed my restoration!

Click on each page here to see a large, version you can zoom in on. Click on the large version again, and then zoom in as close as you want!

I think you'll be pleased by how great the artwork looks after I did the best I could to make it look much more like it did on the artist's drawing board than what was finally put on newsprint paper in the comic and then allowed to deteriorate over time.

I was amazed at the fine artwork I discovered when I used Paint.net to bring this wonderful comic back to life. Very Happy

As with the various magazine articles I've posted, below each image you'll see this:

I hope you post replies to let me know that you were pleasantly surprised (not to mention being impressed at what a fine job I did. Cool)

You would think that getting a spaceship or aircraft up to launching speed along a track would be a cost-effective way of doing things — perhaps using linear induction? Even using booster rockets ought to work, as, if they stayed behind and just fell into water or sand, it would be easy to re-use them for the next scheduled launch..

In When Worlds Collide they used the booster on the undercarriage and let it drop away at the end of the track.

I've always hated the fact that all our spacecraft use "throwaway" portions of the vehicles, either in the form of rocket stages or fuel tanks (like the shuttle). So, I'd want a horizontal launch system that used a separate reusable vehicle that the actual spacecraft sat on top of, one that would either be piloted or remotely controlled so it could return to the space center, land, and be used over and over again.

The launch vehicle wouldn't need to be much more than powerful rocket engines housed in an aerodynamic body that could be flown back around to the runway and land after launching the spacecraft.

I couldn't find an illustration of exactly what I'm describing, but I did find this. Nice, eh? Cool

Thinking Outside the "Plot"!
________________________________

~ A Question for the Members: This movie (and others that portrayed similar disasters) have helped educate two generations about the dangers of cosmic threats to the planet Earth.

With that in mind, would mankind show more wisdom now in the 21st century if we were told by scientist that Earth was destined to be hit by a large object from space?

~ My Theory: No, we wouldn't. Look how badly our own government has responded to something which scientist have warned about for years: global pandemics.

America is the most technologically advanced country on Earth. And yet we've have more cases of Covid-19 and more deaths than any other nation!

Obviously we just aren't as smart as we thought we were. We don't even have enough sense to elect the right leader. Rolling Eyes

(I just tossed this out to encourage a discussion. I hope I get one.)

Merry Christmas, sci-fi fans! Very Happy

I've spent this joyous holiday weekend watching classic Christmas movies like It's a Wonderful Life, Miracle on 34th Street, and White Christmas!

And then I found a few movies like Conquest of Space and The Day the Earth Stood Still that had clear "Christmas" connections which enhanced this joyous season in their own unique way. Very Happy

And today, on this sunny (but chilly Sunday) here in North Carolina — just two day after Christmas — I suddenly remembered that When Worlds Collide starts out with a solemn quote from the Bible and then proceeds to tell us a story which is obviously based on the Biblical tale of a world-wide flood which allegedly wiped out all mankind . . . except for a chosen few!

I know what you guys are thinking. What does this have to do with Christmas?

Well, think of it this way.

The Yuletide season celebrates the initiation of God's "Plan B" — a way to save mankind without drowning the whole kit and kaboodlel! So, he sent Agent JC to Earth on a suicide mission to rescue the human race from itself.

Based on today's global situation, Agent JC didn't do so hot . . . Sad

And that brings us to Plan C — let mankind pick the lucky survivors and send them to a nice new planet to inhabit. Let's just see if they're smart enough to build a Space Ark that will get them to their new Garden of Eden.

Well . . . obviously, they did! Very Happy

The next step in God's Plan C was to see how his children reacted to this life threatening situation. Would they accept the decisions of their own people concerning who would live and who would did?

Or would they kill each other to be the lucky few who survived?

The verdict was a split decision; some accepted death bravely . . . while others fought like animals to survive. Sad

This classic movie from the Golden Ave Sci-Fi starts and ends with on-screen Biblical quotes which the producers indeed to inspire the American public. I'm sure it did to some degree, but times have changed.

These days this movie should be viewed more like an inspirational Holiday Favorite, such as the ones I listed at the top of my post! Very Happy

After all, if a few lucky individuals from all of mankind managed to survive the destruction on the planet Earth, shouldn't they realize that — all things considered — it's a wonderful life! Very Happy
