11 Possibilities For The New Captain Of The U.S.S. Discovery In ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ Season 2
By: Iain Robertson, Trekmovie

At the end of Star Trek: Discovery’s season finale, the U.S.S. Discovery was in route to Vulcan to pick up its new captain, before being diverted from a distress call from the U.S.S. Enterprise. The name of this captain awaiting them on Vulcan was never mentioned, creating one of the many mysteries posed by the episode. So, who is this mystery captain? Could it be someone we are familiar with, either from Discovery or seen in Trek before? Let’s break down the possibilities.

It Could Be:
Christopher Pike
Number One
Robert April
Matt Decker
T’Pol
Garth of Izar
Alexander Marcus
Saru
Gabriel Lorca (Prime)
(Admiral) Katrina Corwnwell
Other options....
…or maybe it will be someone new....

BDT: How about Tilly?

It is difficult to make a strong case for any of them... characters who appear later in the timeline, or in the animated series, or whatever. The safe route would be to keep Saru in charge - Tilly would be great, though it would be hard to justify such a swift promotion, as the Mirror Universe way of getting to the top is, generally, frowned upon.

Discovery Nominated for Peabody Award
StarTrek.com Staff

Star Trek: Discovery has been nominated for a Peabody Award, it was announced today. Discovery earned its nomination in the Entertainment category and, according to The Hollywood Reporter, is one of a total of 60 Peabody nominees for the "most compelling and empowering stories released in electronic media" in 2017.

The Peabody Award winners for Entertainment will be revealed on April 19, and all the winners and finalists will be feted during a gala event at Manhattan’s Cipriani Wall Street on May 19.

"True to tradition, we are proud to present a rich mix of excellence in the craft of storytelling," Jeffrey P. Jones, Peabody’s executive director, said in a statement. “These stories reflect important social issues and exemplify the power of diverse voices and platforms in media today."
The Discovery team acknowledged the Peabody nomination with a gracious tweet:

Captain Pike has been cast for season 2.

From :
http://www.startrekcaptainpike.com/the-cast/

" Anson Mount has been tapped to play Captain Christopher Pike of the U.S.S. Enterprise in the soon-to-film second season of Star Trek: Discovery. Mount, who was born in Illinois and raised in Tennessee, counts among his many film and television credits Crossroads, Smallville, All the Boys Love Mandy Lane, Lost, Dollhouse, Straw Dogs and Non-Stop, as well as the recent series Hell on Wheels and Inhumans.

Discovery served up an initial reference to Pike in “Choose Your Pain,” when Saru instructed the computer to comb the Starfleet Database for the most-decorated captains. Pike’s name appeared on a list that included Robert April, Jonathan Archer, Matthew Decker and Philippa Georgiou.
And in the season finale, “Will You Take My Hand?” the crew of the Enterprise was on the way to meet their new captain when they received a distress call. Communications officer R.A. Bryce announced… “Hail's from Captain Pike, sir." Michael Burnham quickly connected the dots and commented, "It's the U.S.S. Enterprise."

Pike is an iconic Star Trek character, played by Jeffrey Hunter in the first Star Trek: The Original Series pilot, “The Cage,” and then in disfigured form by Sean Kenney in “The Menagerie, Part I and II.” Bruce Greenwood portrayed the alternate universe Pike in both Star Trek (2009) and Star Trek Into Darkness. "

Concerning the Peabody Awards, STD isn't the only sf-type show on the list. "A number of titles are up for the entertainment award," my search tells me. "These include Alias Grace (Halfire Entertainment in association with CBC, Netflix), The Handmaid’s Tale (Hulu/MGM/White Oak Pictures/The Littlefield Company/Daniel Wilson Productions, Hulu) American Vandal (CBS Television Studios, Netflix), Better Call Saul, (Sony Pictures Television/Gran Via Productions, AMC), Halt and Catch Fire (AMC Studios/Gran Via Productions, AMC), Insecure (HBO Entertainment in association with Issa Rae Productions, HBO), Last Week Tonight with John Oliver (HBO Entertainment, HBO), Legion (FX Productions/Marvel Television, FX Networks) and Star Trek: Discovery (CBS Television Studios, CBS All Access)."

'Star Trek: Discovery' Season 2: Spock Confirmed

From YAHOO ENTERTAINMENT

The beloved half-human/half-Vulcan Mr. Spock will appear in the second season of Star Trek: Discovery, but perhaps not exactly how fans might expect. Famed Star Trek: The Next Generation actor and director — Jonathan Frakes — revealed this weekend that Spock will be “seen in flashbacks,” in the second season of Discovery.

On Saturday, speaking at the El Paso Comic Con, in El Paso, Texas, Frakes told Trek expert and fan Justin Oser that he’ll be back to direct two episodes of Discovery in season 2. Earlier this year, Frakes directed the epic mid-season premiere which brought Star Trek: Discovery into the Mirror Universe. And now, he’s confirmed that in addition to Captain Pike, Spock will indeed show up in this new season, but that it will likely be in flashbacks with a young Michael Burnham. So this means, we could potentially see what it was like when Spock and Burnham grew up together, a fact which was mentioned several times in the first season of Discovery.

This statement from Frakes seems to indicate that Spock won’t appear in the “present” of Discovery, which is actually the past of the original series. At this point in the Star Trek timeline, Discovery is in the year 2257, which has essentially created a blank slate for the show to do whatever it wants with both Pike and Spock. Because the events of the original series still don’t happen until 2265 or 2265, there’s a lot of wiggle room for how Spock and Pike are depicted. Plus, if Spock only appears in flashback, there’s even more wiggle room.

The question is now, how will Spock appear in flashbacks from a technical standpoint? Will Discovery do a de-aged digital Leonard Nimoy? Will Zachary Quinto make a comeback? Or, if Spock and Burnham are still children in these flashbacks, will Spock, in fact, be totally recast? We’ve already seen Burnham as a child, played brilliantly by Arista Arhin in season 1. Now, it seems possible she’ll be back for season 2.

Star Trek: Discovery season 2 is currently filming in Toronto. It is rumored to debut either in the Fall of 2018, or early 2019.

Star Trek: Discovery's Version of the Enterprise Had to Be Modified for Legal Reasons
Julie Muncy, Io9

The finale of Star Trek: Discovery gave us a short glimpse at the most legendary ship in the entire Starfleet: the Enterprise, ten years before the original Star Trek television show. Befitting the different visual style of Discovery, the ship looks a little different than we remembered, but that apparently wasn’t just for creative reasons. ...

“Back in April of 2017 the task of the Enterprise making an appearance came to be and work was to start right away,” Eaves explained (with some of the grammar modified for readability). “The task started with the guideline that the Enterprise for Discovery had to be 25% different, otherwise production would have most likely been able to use the original design from the 60's. But that couldn’t happen so we took Jefferies’ original concepts and with great care tried to be as faithful as possible. We had the advantage of a ten-year gap in Trek history to retro the ship a bit with elements that could be removed and replaced somewhere in the time frame of Discovery and the Original series.”

That guideline, apparently, came from legal, as Eaves went on to explain in a comment below the main post.
“After Enterprise, properties of Star Trek ownership changed hands and was divided,, so what was able to cross TV shows up to that point changed and a lot of the crossover was no longer allowed,” he said. “That is why when JJ [Abrams]’s movie came along everything had to be different. The alternate universe concept was what really made that movie happen in a way as to not cross the new boundaries and give Trek a new footing to continue.”

So that explains it. Creativity is shaped by constraints, after all. And I for one think the new old version of the Enterprise looks awfully sharp, all things considered.

Star Trek: Discovery teaser shows new Enterprise bridge, uniforms

Star Trek: Discovery has started production on season 2 — and has released a teaser with glimpses of the new USS Enterprise bridge and uniforms.

As fans know, season one concluded with the Discovery answering a distress call from the famed ship, which is captained by Christopher Pike (to be played by Hell on Wheels star Anson Mount). First, here are some glimpses at the bridge both under construction and a small slice of the finished interior:

There are also designs for new crewmember uniforms. The designs include skirts for women like in the 1960s-era The Original Series. Discovery has female Starfleet crew members in full body blue unitard suits. (Until it’s on camera, however, it’s possible a design could change — it’s labeled “Ver. 4” after all — but obviously, they’re at least floating the idea by releasing it in a video).

Clearly, just as the USS Discovery has a blue-based color scheme, there’s a red theme going on for the USS Enterprise (which seems fitting as the original show’s bridge had red accents).

Here’s a shot of Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) taking a stroll onto the Enterprise (the “1701” confirms it).

There’s no Star Trek: Discovery premiere date listed, but with filming starting now a fall return is possible.

I took the 3 pictures and enhanced them to show details.

I hope this helps a bit. The alien appears to be either a Klingon or a new form for the Gorn, despite the color.

I'm not sure what "details" you tried to enhance, Butch, but all I see are the same pictures with less contrast. As I've mention before, you seem to preferred washed versions of the pictures you post.

Ask Eadie if she sees them as having poor contrast. If not, your monitor may be set incorrectly. Gord's version are just right.

I see them with too much contrast. Season 2 teaser trailer:

What I found to be the most interesting pictures from the teaser.

The person who arrives in ton-board the Enterprise in the picture posted previously:

Set plan of the Enterprise:

A panel showing the logo of the Enterprise:

Crew of the USS Callister from the episode Black Magic. The Enterprise uniforms are reported to be similar to these:

The crew of the Discovery . Sorry for the poor color:

I WILL try to re-size these but I must study for more tests at school!

The fact that Mark Lenard as Sarek and Jeffrey Hunter as Pike are not in Discovery proves to me that this is an alternate reality in the same way that the new movies are set in another universe! You can't have Leonard nimoy as Spock anymore, whether that be in TOS or the ancient guru as seen in the first two new Trek films but if you put another actor in that role (Star Trek:III not counting) then you've got some big trouble from rabid fans on your hands!

Not that I'm a big fan of Discovery but I thought that Jason Isaacs would be returning to the role of Gabriel Lorca next year, but this would be the real Captain and not a Mirror Universe double! It seems odd to replace him...
